Is 2.0 Ghz good?

Hello,
I was just wondering if the Macbooks processor speed of 2.0Ghz is good compared to other PC's...
I would like to know before i buy one.
I plan on buying a macbook mainly because of Garageband. I will be using the internet heavily on it while using Windows Messenger for Mac. Still unsure about getting Office for Mac... that is what i will basically be using it for.

Is 2.0Ghz good enough for all that?

Thanks

Processing speed is processing speed no mater what form of computer you have whether it be a Mac or PC. However, unlike PC's, Macs never slow down after having it for a year or more. My last PC was really fast for the first six months but then it began slowing dramatically.

As for getting MS office for your future mac, go ahead and get it. I have it for my MacBook and I LOVE it. It is a lot easier to use than the windows version.

Your wondering if 2.0 GHz is enough for all that? I'd say yes. I have 2.16 GHz, which isn't that much different than 2.0 GHz and mine runs super fast. In my opinion, 2.0 GHz would be fine for you.

Hope this helps you.

mine runs great on 1gb ram, but i don't run any heavy duty applications.
not sure how ram consuming garage band is?

you can always upgrade later anyway so try 1gb and maybe save up for the extra ram when you can afford it.

by the way, getting the extra ram from apple isn't the cheapest option. search the forums of where's best to buy your ram....!

I've got a white 2.0Ghz core duo (not core 2 duo) MacBook. I just wanted it for writing (OpenOffice / NeoOffice) and little more, so I did not even consider the much more expensive Pro. I've got a big PowerMac for that. I'm much into 3D graphics and CPU extensive simulations, and I was stunned to realise the processing power of the 2.0Ghz core duo (on a core to core comparison, a 2.0Ghz core duo core -home line- has about the same processing power than a 2.5Ghz PowerPC G5 970MP core -high-end line-). Sometimes I even use the laptop for simulation and/or rendering! The weakest spot is maybe that its graphics card is nothing really out of this world, but it's a very nice machine, and cute as a button. Hope this helps...

Well, I had the same thought too when I was looking to buy my mac so I decided to ask a mac genius. He asked me what I was intending to do with it and I told him I was going to use it for school work (power point, word, Excel etc) He said that 1 GB of RAM was more than enough for what I was going to use the MB for.

I'd stick with 1 GB. Remember, you can always change it to 2 GB later on.
