Airport and port forwarding/DMZ

Hello everyone!

I have just bought an airport wireless router, while using an windows XP OS. Thing is I like playing age of empires 2 on the internet, but to play online it requires me to open ports. With normal routers I can enter them by typing something like: 192.168.0.1, but this is not the case here. How can I forward ports or preferably turn on the DMZ function so that I can decide for myself if I want protection/limitation or not. I do not use the wireless function, I have a cable from the airport extreme router to mu pc. I really hope someone can help me, because I can't figure it out.

Which AirPort base station did you have? I'm going to assume that you got the new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).

To setup Port Mapping:
1. Assign a manual IP to the LAN device hosting Age of Empires.
System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > TCP/IP
- Configure IPv4: Manually
- IP Address: <enter the desired IP address for your host server>
- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
- Router: 10.0.1.1
- DNS Servers <your ISP DNS server IPs>

2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
To setup port mapping on an AEBSn, temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility to make these settings:
Advanced - Port Mapping tab
- Click the + (Add) button
- Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
- Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
- Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
- Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
- Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
- Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
- Click "Continue"

Thanks a lot for your swift and elaborate response! I think I can work this out except for one little detail.

My computer doesn't show airport anywhere. I installed the utility, but I cannot select any options (all greyed out) because (I presume) he cannot find the airport extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi Base Station. Once I plugged my pc onto this already excisting network I had internet right away once I changed my IP from static to dynamic. It's like I am getting internet by magic and the airport router is nonexistent.

I'd be really gratefull if you could help me with this.

Sorry, my error, I gave you instructions for setting up a static IP for a Mac. The following should be the equivalent ones for a PC...

Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties

- Use the following IP address (selected)
- Enter the desired IP address, Subnet mask, & Default gateway
- Use the following DNS server addresses (selected)
- Enter the desired Preferred & Alternate DNS addresses

Makes more sense thanks.

I can make my IP static. But how do I do part 2 of your first post? You told me to change settings with the airport utility, but I can't change anything there, because the options are greyed out. 'Advanced' aswell. Should I use another kind of utility or something? Or should my pc be the main computer on the network? I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out.

You should be using the AirPort Utility that came on the CD with your new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).
