Anyone have some best practices for iPhone recharging? For example, is it a bad thing to leave the iPhone in the cradle at night if it's fully charged?

Not bad to leave the iPhone plugged in.

I don't think that is a flaw. It is quite useful if you need to look at something in notes or email while you are on the phone with earbuds, for example. Don't know if it does or not, but it should probably auto-lock at whatever time you have the autolock set to trigger.
Well i bought my iphone yesterday around 2:30 and i played with it all day with a high brightness and went on the internet and everything. Went to bed last night and used it today and it is not dead.
Ditto. I surf the web lots, lots of phone calls, lots of email. No problem with the battery.

I encountered the same problem last night: I put the phone on its dock (with the phone still on), put the computer to sleep after synching the phone, and went to bed. When I got up, the phone surprisingly had only 5% battery charge remaining.
It appears that the USB port does not supply DC power when the computer is asleep (I tried two ports on my G5 with the same result). So I guess we either have to leave the computer on, or charge the phone using the wall adapter.
This is an unexpected oversight in an otherwise spectacular product.
That may be why they supplied the iPhone with a usb power brick, so you could use that instead of your computer for overnight charging: I do. Seems like the oversight is not their's 😉

Well you say to let it go completly dead while most people on here are saying that if you always fully discharge it it will affect the the battery. I only do that the firt time. Do you do it all the time?
What does optimizing your iphone mean and how do u do it?

So turning my phone off every night and plugging it in is a good thing? I have only had it die once, but it has gotten low a few times and it is frustrating when I cannot use the features because I want to save the battery just incase someone calls. If you use it for email and browsing, phone and some music should it be pretty low at night or still moderatly high? If it is one the weekend and I have not been at work all day or in class I can run the battery down and I want to make sure that is normal or that I don't need to have something done? Any answers?? Thanks!
Def. sounds like the battery is faulty. Do you have your email setting to check for new message running all the time. If you are using EDGE network as apposed to "wi-fi" (which you say you have turned off most of the time) this can drain the battery faster but still sounds like it's a faulty battery to me.
em8303,
The battery life will, of course, depend on the user. During the week, I generally get two days out of my battery. I check email, make a few phone calls and read my favorite blogs (Fake Steve). It is not supposed to hurt the battery to charge it every night, but generally I get two days out of my battery, less on the weekends when I am not working so I am using the phone more.
I am hardly a "chatty Cathy" so if you talk on the phone a lot or do a lot of texting, you are not going to get nearly the battery life that I do, but you should be able to get through the day.
I also do not turn off my iPhone while in the charger. I use the iPhone's alarm as a back-up, otherwise I would probably over-sleep in the mornings. I don't really think that having the Wi-Fi active while charging the battery is going to mess up the battery's ability to hold a charge.
If you still suspect that your battery is not holding a proper charge, I would suggest cycling the battery according to my earlier post on the thread. If cycling the battery once does not improve the battery life, I would suggest returning the phone to the Apple Store for repair/replacement.
Cheers!

I agree. Thats not a flaw, its a feature - and it does go off at the lock time you have set.
My battery life is very good so far - no complaints.

no i only did it once.... think of it as resetting the capacity the battery can hold..... when it comes home from the store it only has a half of a charge..... if you just recharge that day you continue to only get half of a charge,,,,, but if you optomize it... let in run out fully till the phone shuts itself off. then charge it in the dock plugged into the wall not the computer...... it should now hold a full charge instead of only half a charge each time..... make sense??
i now only have to charge my phone maybe every other day.... or every 3 days....i use it for phone calls, i play on the internet and use the ipod for movies and music.....

I have gotten the Usage stats from last "full charge", but never the battery icon full/glowing
I recently bought an i-phone....i have recharge my batt..by around 4pm..i don't spend much time on it....also, by the time the battery is low, the phone gets really HOT...is this normal???
Does anyone notice that the battery icon "looks" more full in black/white than the green color version?
Thanks.
Thanks.
