DLINK

D-Link custom web pages for login, etc. do not work on the iPhone, nor any Safari browser on any other platform.

So my Wifi doesn't work at work and I can't show off my shiny new IPhone's wifi features to my coworkers.

The really awful thing is DLink is actively breaking support for Safari. If they just ignored the request header that identifies the browser, it would work just fine, provided they haven't broken other HTTP / HTML standards in their quest for incompetence.

Apple should provide a place to override the setting, like Opera and Firefox have, to trick all the stupid 'This website only works on Internet Explorer 3.0 and higher' web sites written by morons.

Did I mention that I hate D-Link?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

DLink clears states that Safari—with Java 1.3.1 or later—is supported for interaction with their site and the services they offer through it.

Are you saying that you cannot use Safari on any platform to configure a DLink router or gateway through its web interface? Why not simply use Camino or Firefox under OS X? I agree that programmers take shortcuts and their is seldom a reason not to support Safari, but you have a limited number of choices here, it seems:

• bang your head against the wall and accomplish little
• toss your substandard DLink consumer product for a real router or gateway
download Camino or Firefox and configure your device

That didn't seem clear from your original post.

There should be no reason that you cannot access the internet using your iPhone through a DLink access point. What you are saying suggest that your iPhone is not properly configured to do so through that network device, possibly because of connection issues involving its security settings or access to the DNS values required to browse.

At first glance, this would seem like a WiFi configuration issue specific to your iPhone and this selected network on it, and not a problem with the DLink device itself. Isn't there someone at your workplace who is responsible for configuring this access point who could work with you to isolate or identify the problem?

Below is the less than helpful response I received from D-Link. My interpretation of their "Email Confidentiality Statement" allows me to post it here, as I am the intended recipient.

Unfortunately, Safari is not a supported web broswer.

I apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you.

Thank you for networking with D-Link.

1. Its a specific model D-Link wireless router, with a web-based authentication page.
2. D-Link has confirmed that it only supports IE and Firefox, and not Safari, and I posted the message from them in this discussion.
3. Apple (not D-Link) appears to have fixed the issue with the 1.1.1 software release (the iPod touch also works).
4. Safari on a brand new Macbook doesn't connect to it.
5. You are using either the 1.1.1 software update, a different model D-Link router, or both.
