Playing V-Drums in Logic

I envision this as happening in its own track(s) and by
playing the V-Drums themselves. Is this possible?

Sure, the V-Drum is both a MIDI controller and a sound module.

Can I then edit the drums in Logic as midi?

Sure, you are just recording the MIDI data just the same as any other MIDI controller, and using the TD6 to play them back.

I've tried using Logic's setup assistant to recognize the drums
which it appears to do in the startup process.

No. Open the environment window. Select New -> Multi Instrument, and click on all 16 channels (I expect the TD6 is multitimbral).

Name the multi instrument TD6, and make sure you have set the correct MIDI port that your TD6 is connected to.

(You'll want to put this in your autoload so you only have to do it once.)

Now, back in the arrange window, click-hold on a track, and select the "TD6 -> TD6 (10) from the flip-menu of environment objects. This means any MIDI data on this track will play back to your TD6 on MIDI channel 10.

Now bang some pads and watch the transport - do you see the reception of notes values? If so, you are good to go. Hit record and bang some pads. Press stop, and play it back - you should hear the TD6 playing the parts back.

If you get doubling or flamming of notes, make sure the TD6 is set to local off mode - if it can't do this, then there are ways of doing this with Logic - post back if you don't know how to do it.

That should get you off and running, anyway.

How do you auto load this environment mapping as you said?

2. I want to setup for each track in the arrange to link with one midi channel. Then assign that track an audio file. For example, if my snare on my roland kit is outputting on channel 1 into logic pro.... and let's say for ease, my first track is set to link with my new multi instrument as midi channel 1, then how do I assign an audio file, i.e. a custom made snare clip to play back where ever there is a midi value in the first track?

I can see that I am starting with one brick but I want to build the wall of china. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

You save an autoload song with whatever settings you want which Logic automatically loads when it starts.

Or you can "Save as template" and have a range of template songs to start working with.

Er... I'm trying to decode this into working out what you want to do! ⚠

Are you saying you want your kit to trigger new drum samples in Logic? Then just assign a sampler/ultrabeat on an audio instrument channel, and setup whatever samples and mappings you need. That way, when you hit a pad, that MIDI note triggers the sample for it.

you have to go into the utilties (shift edit) and midi common and turn off local to get midi to be accepted in pc, then set up ports. I am currently working on these items to master myself. The free roland manual site for the td -6 is actually very helpful.
