Screen has bad spots - inactive touchscreen problems

I've had my iPhone for a week and love the device, but earlier today, I tried to check voice mail and could not activate the top part of my screen. It's like there's a dead zone at the top and anytime I try to touch 1,2,3 on the phone, check voice mail or touch any part of this screen region...it's dead. It's also in the area to reset the phone in General Settings.

Anyone have this problem?

Any advice?

Thanks in advance. Loyal Mac Addict and iphone fan, but really hate problems that prevent me from making calls on such an expensive phone.

I had the same problem with mine, the top portion went dead rendering many of the applications practically useless (e.g., mail you could not tap send, or step back out of an email, etc.). I called 1800myiphone, and they took care of me. Within 10 minutes, they told me that they would send a box. Next day, I packaged up the phone and shipped it back, and within 3 days, I had a brand new phone. Apple support on this has been second to none! It is a small hassle, but I love my iPhone more than any phone, and with Apple's great support, I can't say anything bad about the experience. Part of getting a first generation item. But it is sooooo worth it. I will be buying Apple Care for it.

My recommendation for this problem:
1. Set up an appointment with a Apple Genius at an Apple store, if available.
2. If 1 is not an option, then call 1-800-myiPhone.

This will solve your problem.
