No. As a former Cingular customer, I can get text messages sent to mynumber@cingularme.com. Before that, being an "old" AT&T customer, they gave me an email ID mynumber@mymmode.com. For iPhones, I think they are pushing Yahoo mail.

A. All wireless phones are set up to send and receive email messages by using the following address: yournumber@txt.att.net. You can exchange short emails with any email address worldwide.

I just tried this. It doesn't work. I get the email returned to my sending address that states it's undeliverable to the supposed iPhone address.

Those are not emails (contrary to what the website says). Those are text messages. And long emails take several text messages to go through, and you only get 200 of those a month.

IT depends on whether you were cingular or not. Try yournumber@cingularme.com if you were cingular customer.

I was not a Cingular customer before. And I only sent an email that said Hello. One word oughta go thru right?

I doubt that's the reason. I am a new customer and I didn't port a number over. I just got a new number with ATT and I never had Cingular before.

I used mynumber@txt.att.net over the weekend and it arrived as an SMS on my phone.

The "yournumber" is your area code and phone number, digits only, no preceding 1 and no dashes. For example:

2035551212@txt.att.net

I sent an email to my brand new iPhone, new AT&T customer with the $59.xx plan and no additional and it came through in about 10 seconds. If it doesn't work for you, call AT&T and tell them. I'm sure there is some tick in a checkbox somewhere where there shouldn't be that blocks emails or something on your account.
