Does iPhone have it's own Email address - phonenumber@attws.com ??

Its not an email. Its a SMS text message. There is a difference. Big one at that.

SMS messages are charged separately from the "unlimited" data plan. They are text only, limited to 256 character (or less I think), and a long message will be broken up into multiple SMS messages, all of them counting against your 200 per month limit. No attachments, no HTML, etc.

Apple went into your account and did something? I dont think so.

mynumber@txt.att.net from my Mac Mail.app worked fine for me AND I was/am a Cingular (now AT&T) subscriber.

To be clear:

You send an EMAIL to the @txt.att.net address (using your EMAIL program) and it appears on your iPhone as an SMS text message.

Yes, Apple did... I called AT&T, and they forwarded
me to an Apple iPhone specialist, who went into my
AT&T account, and made an adjustment, and it started
working.

I doubt Apple has access to your AT&T account. That Apple iPhone Specialist is very likely an employee of AT&T.

Yes. I just gmailed my iPhone number@attws.com and immediately received it as an SMS message. The "return" number is ATT's standard 010 SMS address they use.

I'm a longtime ATT/Cingular/ATT user, for what its worth. (same number throughout, as well)

It worked for me. I used the 954xxxxxxx@txt.att.net

To expand further..... to send a TEXT message to an AT&T phone from an email client, use xxxxxxxxxx@txt.att.net

To send media to an AT&T phone from an email client use xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net

I can email photos from my iphone (using "email photo" from the photos page) to other [non iphone] phones on my family plan and they come in as MMS messages to them. they can email photos from their [non i]phones to my phone by sending a MMS message to my email account. (the address i use in the mail client, not the @mms.att.net address)

The messages only come at the 15 minute email check interval, not instantly, but that's not a big deal to me.

I am a former Cingular customer and I sent to mynumber@txt.att.net and I received an SMS message on my phone. It also worked with mynumber@cingularme.com.
