Magnetic iPhone Cases, Good or Bad Idea?

Thinking of purchasing a new iPhone case which has a leather flip cover for the touch screen and has magnetic fasteners.

Dose anyone know if this can affect the iPhone or it's touch screen?

Someone here had a magnetic case and it WRECKED their iPhone.

In audio it it considered very bad to keep Hard Drives anywhere near magnets (speakers, amps etc.) - just like analog tape. It can wipe a hard drive. So best to keep away if possible.

I don't believe the iPhone has a hard drive. It has flash memory (hence the 8 GB size limit). I have a case with the magnetic closure and its been just fine.

I'm not sure WHY (there is no hard drive involved BTW sfnorton), but my first iPhone became completely unusable after 24-36 hours of using a magnetic closure case. My SECOND iPhone was starting to show the same symptoms after less than an hour. ("Repair needed. iPhone can not make or receive calls...") I stopped using the case immediately and replaced the magnets with Velcro. No problems since. I'm not going to put the magnets back to try to prove the point further. :O

It makes some sense that a fairly concentrated magnetic field in such close proximity to so much densely packed electronics could be a bad thing. Any engineers want to chime in?

Thanks, and I do understand that magnets are bad for any electronic device, but a case with 1 to possible 2 very small magnets covered in leather?

I would love this type of case, sounds like I should look to something else.

I just want a leather full covered case, with a flip for the screen and a easily removable iPhone design.
Roatable clip would be nice too.

Man it stinks to pay this much for such a nice looking device and when it comes to accesaries, you get cheap looking ish.

You buy one of thease and void he fact that apple spent millions in design for this phone and you end up with a great device at 600$ that looks like a 20$ piece of crap,( with most of thease cases).

Thats why I want a easily removable iPhone case with thease options.

When I use my iPhone that's what I want it to look like . . an iPhone!!

How did you replace them?

Did it come with that option or did you just cut them out?

Lastly what case are you using?

It's a cheap generic case that I got at a T-Mobile kiosk in the mall. I cut performed a little surgey and removed the 4 small magnets and used some self-stick Velcro from Office Max.

I have a Case-Mate cover on order for protection, ( http://www.case-mate.com/phones/apple/Perforated-Leather-iPhone-Case) but I HOPE I can still use my case (or something like it) as a carrier and not have to have it hanging exposed from a belt clip.

Here are a couple of nice looking Velcro pouches that I'm actually considering as a replacement for mine. (The surgery wasn't completely successful, and it WAS a pretty cheap case to start with.)

I think I like the looks of this one best:
