why so angry?

okay let me first say that malfunctioning equipment is a worthy cause for anger...but aside from those issues, why are so many people here hostile about their iphones? sure it does lack a few feature that "should" be standard. however, most of it's short-comings were already known prior to release. no mms, no bluetooth file exchange, no saving files from email, etc. so why is everyone so angry? though i wish it had the formentioned features, i bought it knowing i wouldn't have them. i've always thought it would be "kinda neat" to have a phone that could send and recieve email, browse the internet, process words, etc. however, i never got one because the ghastly monstrocities wielding such capibilities like the treo and blackberry, nausiated me. and thats not even getting into the hideous UI, those devices run. as far as aesthetics and user interface go, those devices seem archaic. then along came the iphone, new kid in town. she may not be the fastest, strongest, or the most popular. BUT, she is hands down the most beautiful girl in town who's easy to get along with and very friendly! with the minor exception of not having mms capibility, this is the perfect phone. just like all apple products, it just works.

thoughts?

Beats the heck out of me. I love my iPhone. I replaced a Blackberry with it and had a Treo before that. They don't come close to the iPhone experience. I knew being among the first would require some patience until the kinks get worked out but so far I really have no complaints. The volume works fine on both the iPhones we purchased. I guess it could be a little louder along with the ringer but it isn't a deal breaker for me. I'm anxiously awaiting MS Exchange Active Sync support and then it will truly be the greatest phone. I made the switch to Mac a few years ago and never looked back. My experience has been quick fixes for most product problems before I find time to complain about them. Take a chill pill, relax and enjoy all of the iPhones GREAT features.

Has anyone here actually tried to get a relaible sync out of thing. We have two iPhones in my house, and neither one syncs reliably! This thing is totally unreliable syncing a lot of files at one time. I constantly get timed out errors, and your iPhone is not connected errors which I think happens when it's trying to download podcasts when I start a sync. I'm really over it! I also noticed that it doesn't seem to realize that I already loaded some movies on the thing, and when I go to add music it says there is not enough room, yet there should be a gig left. I have also had this can't find the disc error. You would think by now Apple would have syncing down pat. My wife's iPhone has the same issues. VERY disappointing! I just found out I can't seem to free my memory of all the videos I had on it. I deselected 5 of them which put just one half our show on, yet the phone and iTunes stills says 5.5 gig are taken. This thing has major sync problems. I called my brother who also had one, and he said he had many of the same issues. They better fix this stuff, and fast or my two phones will be going back. It just stinks!

Easy. Everyone intuitively knows why:

Because the phone was hyped so much that it couldn't possibly live up to expectations. "Breakthrough device." Ads that showed phone calls while surfing at incredible speed. Ads and interviews that totally avoided mentioning any missing functionality. Reviewers not being able to speak about the phone until the day before its launch.

And then afterwards, lengthy activations, volume and other problems, NONE of which have been acknowledged as a consumer corporation under intense scrutiny should do. Number one rule of a good business: own up and apologize right away. Never heard any apology for activation problems, just smoke blown that about it getting better. And no public notice about when/if the volume can get fixed, before the trial period runs out.

Okay. This, to experienced Apple fans, seems to be business as usual. To the other buyers that boosted sales, it's just plain bad business.

All that said, it's clear that there's also weirdly a lot of anger expressed here from people who say they're happy, shot at those who say they aren't.

And all over a phone. I'm sure we'll all be subjects of short but intense Psych 101 theme papers 🙂

I think we need to keep things in perspective. If you have out a lot on this forum its easy to get a very negative perception of the iPhone. This is, after all, the place people having PROBLEMS with their iPhone come to get help. Let's just say this would not be the most "representative" group of iPhone customers. Maybe that explains the rule against polls. 🙂

If you go by some estimates of 500,000 phones sold in the first weekend, only a very small fraction of users had problems. If 5% had problems, thats 25,000 people. Sure, 25,000 people is a lot, but 475,000 people NOT having problems is a whole lot more.

Don't take what is said in these forums as the ONLY indication of how the iPhone is doing. And you cant really trust the press either. Controversy sells. Stories about long lines, screens melting, batteries exploding - that sells newspapers and ad time. Stories of happy people using their iPhones are - lets face it - BORING.

If the iPhone is causing anyone severe emotional distress, I would highly recommend returning it - and getting therapy. 🙂

Who is angry? Unfortunately the forums are dominated by fanatics on each side of the spectrum. Either they rip it to shreds, or blindly defend it.

I've been an Apple customer for 20-years, and I really wanted to love this phone. For now, I find that it's simply not a practical solution. It's cool as ****, but my heavy phone and email use push the limits of iPhone 1.0.

When you're standing next to the complaints department, expect to hear complaints...

That's the one thing many here don't consider. That is, it is misleading to attempt to judge how satisfied or dissatisfied consumers are with a product by watching what goes on here. Those in the discussions are either having problems, whether by operator error or a bonafide flaw/bug, and those either trying to help and/or are diehard Apple fans defending their turf.

Most of those that are happy with their purchase, you'll never see...
