For 98% of you this is an incorrect setting on your IPHONE.

There are multiple choices for the encryption method (for secured wireless networks) on the IPhone. The IPHONE default is "WEP-Passphrase" (example "yourdogsname").

If you are setting up the network and it appears to connect but you get an IP address that is like "16x.x.x.x" instead of the usual 192.x.x.x the IPhone is not properly logging onto your network.

Instead of simply entering your Wi-Fi key into the "security" field on the wi-fi setting screen. CLICK ON THE SECURITY FIELD and you will then be given a list of choices that includes things such as "WEP-HEX OR ASCII KEY"

If your wireless key is something like "A5D123456" then you have a HEX KEY not a PASSPHRASE. Conversely if you have "dogsname" as a wireless key then it is a passphrase not a Hex Key. Ensuring that this setting is correct will solve most peoples connection problems.

I am an IT professional and it took me an hour to figure out this rediculously simple fix.

I have been having intermittent trouble getting on to my home network as well. For me to get mine to work, I have to follow these steps each time:
Turn off WiFi on my iPhone (go into Settings, Wifi, slide to off)
Reboot my Linksys WiFi Router (I unplug it, count to 5, and re-plug it)
Wait about 30 seconds for the WiFi Router to get done booting
Turn the WiFi back on on my iPhone (Settings, WiFi, slide to On)
In a few seconds the name of my network appears.
I tap on it. It gets a check mark at the left hand edge. The WiFi signal strength arc at the top of the screen appear. And then I am good to go.

This is clearly a bug somewhere in the phone, the router, or my network set up - and it's a pain to do this every time - So I can only claim this solution to be a clumsey workaround - not a fix. I'll keep working on getting it work easily everytime.

Thank you for this fix!!!

I have been struggling to figure this out for 2 days with a couple calls to my wireless router support team, and tinkering with all of the the other iPhone settings except this one!

I went to the apple store, the manager said I should return my Non-Apple wireless router and buy the Apple wireless router instead.
