For the past three days safari has been hanging when I attempt to use google, gmail in the nav bar or the search bar in safari version. 2. java and cookies are enabled, I've cleared the cache and reloaded or rebooted. Any ideas?
Rather than empty the cache, go to the Finder>Home>Library>Caches and move the Safari folder to the trash, then restart Safari and try Google etc. This action creates a new Safari cache folder.
If no change, remove the Google cookies from your Safari Preferences>Security>Cookies panel.
The problem is specific to google--and here is some more info
1) I've experienced the same problem with firefox
2) I have a PC that can access google (desktop but on the same network) from IE and safari beta.
3) My brother in law has a new macbook pro and his computer does the same thing as mine.
I installed some new security updates last week, but it worked 2 days after I installed it.
So it's not the network, and it's not safari either as far I I can tell--
Is your brother-in-law using your Network, or his own? If the latter, do you use the same provider, or a different company? If the same provider, I'd call them explaining the problem.
As a possible workaround, go to your System Preferences>Network>TCP panel. In the DNS servers box enter on separate lines 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2. Select "apply". Restart Safari.
Hi, no such luck with that solution. Very frustrating issue. I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the recent security update or firmware fix. any thoughts out there?
I'm having exactly same problem!!! For past few days Google and gmail are not loading on my Mac, google search also doesn't work in safari.
On windows (parallels) everything is fine.
Solutions anyone?
I'm also having the exact same problem. Any google site, and the google toolbar will not work. sports illustrated site also will not work. The only other people I have found that have fixed this problem did a spotlight search for "peer guardian," deleted it, and everything seemed fine. I tried this, to no avail, as there is no such program on my computer. I have absolutely NO IDEA why this problem is happening. Any help would be appreciated.
I have just managed to resolve the problem here, It might be worth you guys checking your router to see if it has any firmware upgrades available, Im using a Netgear router and carried out the firmware update and it has resolved the problem.
Nothing Google related will work on my Safari now. (I didn't test it thoroughly enough.) It will open the homepage, will search, but the links will freeze Google.
Gmail has a similar problem. The Gmail homepage will work, but loading my inbox will freeze Safari.
Is anyone still having this problem? Was there ever a definitive solution? I haven't used my Powerbook in the past couple of weeks, but now I find I am having the same problems. After adding the OpenDNS numbers, I can get to Google Search, but not to Gmail, Groups, Maps, etc. and any page that has Google ads won't load the ads, which prevents the rest of the page from loading. This is only happening on my Powerbook, via Belkin Pre-N router, with WPA Personal, on Roadrunner in NYC. My iPhone has none of these issues using wifi on the same network.
hey there... i have the problem and have a netgear router also... how did you update that... from your mac or did you have to disconnect and update the router that way?
dave
I still have this problem. Basically my Mac blocks anything to do with google. So I can't get to google.com or google earth or any website that uses google-analytics. It's very annoying and it's the same with Safari and Firefox, basically I'm having to use an old PC with Windows 2000 to do anything on the internet. Has anyone found a fix? I can't find anything on the internet at all. Perhaps we should get in touch with google and find out from them...
