Yahoo mail not sending from iphone!

i have yahoo mail configured on my iphone (using the iphone's automatic settings for yahoo) and everything has been working fine for awhile. now it seems the phone is not sending emails. it makes the "WHOOSH!" sound and everything but when i look in the SENT folder the messages do not appear. Additionally, the recipients do not receive a message.

Help!?!?!

i am still having this issue. after i login to yahoo via web and send a message that way, it seems to work for a bit (sending from iphone does). this is an incredibly sucky workaround and not very practical. what is the deal with this Yahoo crap? I am so disappointed with these email problems. Sending an email from the phone should work EVERY time- this is really sloppy on both Apple and Yahoo's part- didn't someone TEST this thing before shipping it? Seriously.

I am having the same issues! Sometimes my mail sends, sometimes it doesn't. It shows in my Inbox with the checkmark thing which says I replied, but it doesn't show up in my Sent folder, and the people I send the mail to never get it.

It'd be nice if all my emails get to my recipients. But it's a crap shoot if they get it or not. And what's worse... I don't know if they get it or not (unless I sign into my Hotmail Account via the web and email them and ask them).

This issue just might be the deciding factor if I'm keeping the phone or not. I REALLY want to keep it, but...

Am having same problem. Spent 45 minutes with Apple support via telephone yesterday. They said it is a problem with Yahoo after we went through power cycling, resetting (home+sleep/wake), and re-configuring Yahoo email support (which did solve the problem for about 12 hours).

See below for a snip from the message I sent to Yahoo support. I'll post the response I get from them, if I get one.

---

I am using an iPhone and am having problems sending email. I have tried sending messages from my iPhone using my Yahoo mail account configured through the shortcut on the iphone.

Yesterday I lost about 10 sent messages - I typed them and hit send (while I had EDGE service) and the iPhone indicated they had been sent, but the items did not show up in my sent items folder (on iPhone and on Yahoo Mail online).

I contacted Apple support and they walked me through power cycling iPhone, resetting iPhone, and finally re-signing up for Yahoo Mail via the iphone (i.e. setting up Yahoo on the iPhone email client again). This resolved the problem until it began to recur today.

I have sent several emails from my iPhone, all of which have appeared to send without incident but show up in neither iPhone sent mail folder or online Yahoo sent mail folder. I have used my Gmail account via iPhone without incident or interruption during these periods of time, so I know it is a problem between the iPhone and yahoo mail.

I have the exact same issue. I sent yahoo an email yesterday as well. I think it does have to do with the spam filter for sending mail.
An easy way of knowing if you message was sent is to check the sent items on the iphone. If your message appears here, it was sent out correctly. If you don't see your message that means it was blocked.

Right now I am switching between two accounts to send and receive mail. I hope they fix this soon.

how is there a spam filter for SENDING mail? to send mail you need the password for the account. no spammer will have this. i must be misunderstanding.

And yes, because it's IMAP if your message did send properly it will appear in the SENT folder. But it ***** to have to check that everytime I send an email. I guess with Yahoo you get what you pay for! Can't wait til Gmail supports IMAP and push.

Spammers are always innovating ⚠ and finding new ways to send email for free.

One of the more recent additions to their arsenal of tactics is to set up bots which mimic user interaction with a web site so they can send unsolicited email through the web interface.

Captcha ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha) goes some way to prevent this, by ensuring that every nth email is sent by a human. This is the spam filter people are referring to.

I talked to a yahoo support person and they informed me that the spam check only occurs the first time, and then could occur at random but after a long period of time. I was getting the spam check every time on the web using Firefox. I switched to Explorer and it game me the check the first time and then I was able to send 5 emails without a check. I switched back to Firefox and sent another 5 emails without the check.

Then I sent 5 emails so far from my iphone, all of which sent correctly and show in my sent folder.

Could have been a problem using another web browser to start sending messages from I guess?

i am still having the issue that occasionally my emails will not send from the iPhone using the Yahoo account. The WHOOSH does sound but they dont get sent. I seem to be required to send an email from the web interface to jump start it to working again.

YAHOO EMAIL FOR THE iPHONE IS WORTHLESS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I CAN"T BELIEVE APPLE WOULD LET THIS SLIDE!

so disappointed in Apple and Yahoo. It's been 2 weeks since release- this problem should have been fixed by now!

I too am still having this problem. Other posters have mentioned that you need to sign onto the webmail interface for your free Yahoo email account, and complete the captcha entry when sending the email, which should somehow allow the account to recognize your iphone. #1 this hasn't worked for me (never ever been presented with the captcha online), and #2 it doesn't make any sense how this would be related (the IP address of your computer and your iphone are going to be different, and in many cases not even in the same IP block, so I just can't see any correlation in this supposed fix).

Sometimes I can send email using the default-setup Yahoo free email account on the iphone, sometimes I can't (the emails just disappear after the whoosh - they never arrive and never show up in Sent mail). I can't seem to duplicate whatever it is that I have done when it mysteriously starts working again.

I thought it might have something to do with SMTP servers needing authentication before sending, some old email client software could be configured to POP before SMTP in order to authenticate that IP address being OK to send email for a set period of time. That doesn't seem to be it in this case... I can receive valid mail from other sources than myself on the iPhone, yet trying to do an immediate forward or fresh send right after that still ends up in a vanishing email after the whoosh.

If I could reproduce the exact duration or circumstance that you have to hit between when it is working to when it isn't, then this could easily be reported to Apple/Yahoo. As it is, I think Yahoo is taking the approach that it's all our fault with settings, we must be doing something wrong, reset your iPhone, restore your iPhone, etc. etc.

It's absolutely a bug in Yahoo's handling of mail sessions with the phone - but it's going to take someone smarter than I with very specific technical details before we can get someone's attention. Perhaps I am going to have to find and install a suitable packet sniffer so I can watch the traffic between the phone and Yahoo over wifi - and see if the phone isn't doing something it should.

As it is, Yahoo email is for the time being completely useless on the phone in the default mode, because you can never be sure an email has gone out. I may have to resort to my .mac account since IMAP is working perfectly for me there (but .mac desperately needs upgrades of its own, that's a whole other thread).

Thanks for your post. Seems like a lot of people are having this issue- across many phones and wi-fi/edge configurations. I sent feedback to both Apple and Yahoo but am skeptical about anything being done about it. This bug should be reported widely- on blogs, etc. People who require "PUSH" email should know NOT to buy an iPhone as the Yahoo version of push email is totally useless right now.

I urge everyone who is having this problem to report it to Apple AND Yahoo through their sites. The more noise we make about it, hopefully the more they will do to fix it.
