Why can't I get a border-less 4x6 print with iphoto 5

I always seem do get borders on the sides of my pictures. I have done the 4x6 page set-up and the constrain to 4x6 suggestions. When I click 4x6 in the print menu it say the photo won't print. When i click one photo per page I get the borders on the sides. What do I do next?

Hi Len!

You can try this and see if it helps.

Open iPhoto > select photo to be printed... iPhoto > File > Page Setup, make sure you have your printer selected and you should be able to select borderless 4 x 6 as a paper size (if in UK you can try A6 but that's slightly smaller than 4 x 6) and make sure you select correct orientation. Hit OK (I think this is the most important step)

Now go to Share > Print, make sure your printer is selected, from here click on ADVANCE button, again make sure correct printer is selected, go to "Paper Handling", select "Scale to fit paper size", it shoud list 4 x 6 borderless, UNCHECK "Scale down only". At this point you're done telling iPhoto you want a borderless 4 x 6

From here you need to select Paper Type & Quality and Borderless from the drop down menu (depending on type of printer this may vary slightly but it should be there)

Now hit PREVIEW button and see if it looks right - Print (if not hit cancel and start again, you can print a borderless 4 x6)

Good luck, after the first few it gets much easier

As a caveat, this will work as long as your printer is capable of printing 4 x 6 borderless photos, which most are ...(-:

I just bought a new printer (Epson CX8400 all-in-one) and so far trying to print 4x6 pictures in iPhoto and even in Preview, I am getting a white border on just two sides of the picture. The short sides have approximately 1/4" white bands. The long sides are borderless.

It shows up like this in the thumbnail picture in the print dialog box, as well as if I click the Preview button.

My pictures are 2304 x 3072 pixels. That should be the correct ratio for a 4x6 photo. I've followed the instructions in Epson's materials as well as tried the suggestion below, neither making any difference.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Following up my own post: I just realized that I computed that ratio incorrectly. I divided 2034, instead of 2304, into 3072. The first (incorrect) computation came up about 1.51 which is very close to the correct ratio for a 4x6 photo. But the correct computation is actually 1.33. So I guess that's why it's leaving a blank stripe on either end.

I recently returned an HP all-in-one printer because the scan quality was terrible but it did print borderless photos correctly. I assume it must have scaled the image up and then cropped the sides to fill the entire paper?

I guess the bigger question for me now is whether there's another setting I can change my camera to that will give me the correct 1.5 ratio for my images so I don't have this problem...

Oh, I also realized that I got the same 2 white stripes when I tried to print from Preview, so that's when I realized that the problem wasn't in iPhoto, but I thought maybe Epson's print driver had issues. Now I realize that it's my camera, and/or the print driver not compensating for an image ratio less than 1.5 : 1.
