You don't need to find the image on your Hard Drive.
You can return the
Dock to the
default setting, which will again include the icon, but you will then need to customize it to your liking.
Navigate to HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences: Put the file
com.apple.dock.plist in the
Trash.
When you restart, a new
Default
Dock will be created.
As far as just replacing the icon, I think what may be confusing you, is that the small icon, being referred to, technically called a
favicon, that you drag from the browser address bar, will not look like the original
ampersand on a spring, that was in the
Dock.
For example, if you go to the
Apple Website, you would position your cursor on the small icon to the left of
http:, hold down on the mouse, and drag that to the right side of the separator bar in the
Dock, and release the pressure on the mouse.
The
ampersand on a spring icon, will be created.
But, the icon you drag, will continue to be the until you have released the pressure on the mouse.
I think the original icon in the
Default
Dock, led to the
Apple site linked to above, but you can create as many as you wish, that lead to other websites.
