With VPN access as one of the features of the iPhone, you can make a VPN connection to an internal server and then use FTP to browse documents on your local network. It would be useful to be able to look up a file and read it, even though you couldn't edit it.
Has anyone had any success accessing an FTP site using the iPhone? If so, what might I be doing wrong?

This is true - FTP is pointless without file access.
But it does remind me of a cool feature I will be posting on the feedback page...
Wouldn't it be COOL if I could take pictures and have an option to upload them to a website directly from my iPhone? Maybe using some sort of FTP functionality I could define a folder somewhere where my pics get uploaded and someone can use a browser to access the folder and see the pics...

I have not tried... Why would you want to get into an FTP site, since you cannot upload or download any files? I do not see the point...
