AT&T Store for warranty exchange?

I noticed yesterday that the '0' button on my phone keypad wasn't working. I did some checking and there is a small line on my screen that does not respond to touch. I could live without the '0' on the phone keypad - but later discoverd that the bad line on the display is also the 'asdfghjkl' line on the SMS keyboard. This makes the getting the phone fixed/replaced more of a priority.

I called Apple yesterday. They told me specifically that since there was no Apple Store in my area (closest store is two hours away) that I could take to an AT&T store for warranty replacement.

I am going to the local AT&T store ( it is a corportate store) in about on hour to see if they will honor the warranty.

Does anyone know if they will exchange it. Everything I've read seems to indicate that AT&T wants nothing to do with hardward problems on the iphone.
However the guy from Apple specifically said that they would - since there was no Apple store close by.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this...

I have no experience with this but I'd call this AT&T Wireless Store and ask to speak with the Manager to confirm and if not on the same page, you can get it worked out over the phone between Apple and this AT&T Wireless Store before wasting a trip there.

AppleCare can also ship you a new iPhone with a box that can be reused to return your defective iPhone - the box includes a return shipping label to Apple behind the shipping label to you along with tape included to re-tape the box. You call Fed-Ex to request a pickup with Apple footing the shipping charges in both directions.

I've done this with an iPhone loaner while my iPhone was being tested and the same when Apple sent me a replacement iPhone in exchange.

I wasn't charged anything for a loaner but it was required to provide a credit card number for the loaner in case the loaner is lost or stolen or not returned to Apple for whatever reason.

Being charged the loaner rental fee may hinge on if a problem is discovered during the inspection and testing of the iPhone in question and might be more enforced as time goes on.
