Quicktime video stuttering

Is that a 32-bit or a 64-bit Vista that you're running?

(Dell splits out its driver download pages for the C521 depending on which bit-flavor of Vista you have, and I want to make sure I'm looking at the right information.)

I have the same problem. QT just came out with a new version today (which touted many bug fixes), and I had hoped it would solve those video playback problems with Vista. It's worse now!! Now iTunes actually shuts down when I try to play video, while before the video stuttered.

The only time I've ever seen a video stuttering on a windows or mac computer was when it was coming from a website with a slow internet service provider.

I have a similar problem, but I was using iTunes and QT while trying to play TV shows. I have XP Home SP2 and on-board video output. Doesn't iTunes require a good graphics card to play any sort of video?

EDIT: Oh! Requirements are 2.0 Ghz processor for video playback. Never mind me....

Mine was doing this too. I changed the streaming in preferences for QT and it stopped.

I have been having the same troubles, especially while trying to export mov files to iPhone. I have tried all the suggestions listed in this thread and the ONLY thing that has worked is using a 3rd party app to convert the mov file to iPhone using the H.2XX format. As long as it worked, I'm happy. But really Apple, I would expect this type of thing from M$, not you!!

I think I found it, my system stats page says it is running 32 bit, the processor is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ 2.3 GHz, nVidia GeForce 6150 LE.

I cant give you a link to the overall Vista 32-bit page for your C521 (I can navigate there, but the link that appears in my browser for that page at Dell doesn't work when i post in into a thread here). But i can link you directly to some of the idividual updates being listed there.

Check to see if your Dimension C521 System BIOS is up to date.

Check to see if your nVidia GForce 6150 Driver is up to date.

If no joy there, try working through the other suggestions in the following document. (iTunes uses QuickTime for video playback, so the same basic troubleshooting procedures apply.)

I checked with Dell, and they gave me what I believe to be the XP NVidia driver, instead of the Vista one you gave me!

That's a bit disconcerting ... as far as i can tell the Vista 32-bit driver they are offering there for the 6150 card is different from their XP/2000 one.

Did they say why they thought you should install the XP/2000 one?

I have the same problems with poor video playback in some .mov files where I get a few seconds of playback at the beginning then is freezes or goes black while the sound and video scrollbar at the bottom continue on just fine.

Seems to be related to larger, higher quailty .mov files (ones claimed to be at "high def") as ones on websites etc now playback fine with the 7.2 update. I have had this issue back on XP Pro before upgrading to Vista x64 as well.

The problem is that Apple and NVIDIA keep pointing the finger at each other, but nobody's doing anything about it. Someone needs to pull their head out, admit that their software doesn't work and do something about it. Right now it appears to everyone that nobody's doing anything. I've been fighting this problem on and off for months.
