Where to buy: Apple store or AT&T store?

I am going to buy my iPhone on friday, however I am not sure wether to buy my phone at Apple or AT&T. I do not have a att account or plan, so I will have to make one. However, can I do this at home in iTunes or do I need to go in store? Also, what about if I need to exchange the phone. Which one will be more willing to exchange it for me, Apple or att? Any opinions on where to buy? Thanks so much!

dosent matter. all done through iTunes. I will say that the people at att dont know **** and the Apple employees are 10x nicer and more knowledgeable about the iPhone.

ATT store wont charge you a 10% restocking fee like Apple will...if you decide to return it.

They told me they will! One of the AT&T reps was about to tell me all the policies and I rehearsed them to him. I asked him if the restocking fee was true... and they confirmed it.

What about creating an account through att? What about deposits? In the iPhone activation, do you type in your account number? If so, does it allow you to create one? Thanks so much!

They assured me at the AT&T store that a 10% restocking fee would apply if I returned within the 14 day trial period.

That was actually true. I believe an investigation has been launched into that by AT&T, not that they'll really care.

i always prefer to go to the apple store - the 'geniuses' dont bother you like sales people at other stores, plus there is more fun stuff to play with

I stand corrected. I apparently talked to a misinformed ATT rep, who told me ATT did not charge the 10% restock fee. I was told later that ATT will charge the 10% restock fee.

and blame Apple for it. They will also not swap a defective iPhone out for a new one that works. Again, they blame Apple for it.

That's funny...I didn't get a manual, just a chintzy foldout with phone highlights. Did the manual come in a box, too?
