Help! Can't open side panel of power mac G4! I need in there!
Hi, I just bought a powermac G4 for my retired parents and they need to hit the reset button but can't open the side panel to get in. They have tried moving the lockable cover latch and pulling the side handle but it seems to be jammed. Any suggestions. They live 400 miles away in Scotland so I can't try anything myself. Heellllppp!
Well, no one else has replied, so I'll make a suggestion.
Place the left side of the G4 on the floor. Now push down quite hard on the top (right side) panel near the pull-up lever with one hand while pulling up on the lever. Hopefully the side panel will release.
Often the side door will be difficult to open due to a cable being pinched somewhere in the perimeter of the door. Firmly push the door while operating the latch to release. Inspect power and drive cables for damage once the door is open, replace obviously damaged cables
Hurrah! They're in. I think my dad just pushed the door really hard and pulled the handle to the point of snapping it. Sure enough - there were some cables trapped in there. Thanks for your help there guys. Job done.
