connected to car AUX jack -- inferior sound ?

I connected my iphone to the AUX jack on the stereo of my Solstice today for the first time. I just used a 3.5mm cord plugged into the headphone jack. The sound wasn't very good -- especially the louder I turned it up. My question is: Will the sound be much better if I connect using a cord from the dock connector output ? I saw a cord on the net for @12 dollars that goes out from the dock conn port to the aux input of the car. I thought I read somewhere that this is a much higher quality sound output. Correct?

HardmonKarmon Drive + Play. Works like it was built for it. Charges too. Options for wired or fm wireless, which is what I use. The song playing turns down and my ringer rings thru my speakers when there's in incoming call. Song starts back when call is over. I can stop for gas, unplug phone, go inside, come back out and plug the phone back in and the song starts again at the place I turned the car off.

They got a nicer model but this one is superb!
