Digi 003 Control Surface & Logic Express

Hi,

I started with Digi but have recently been converting over to Logic. I've had a Digi 002 control surface for years and did a hardware exchange for the 003. The 003 has a midimap option which is new for this model that allows it to be used as a control surface for other DAW applications unlike the 002 ( http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=54&itemid=24726).

I've spoke to Logic users who say they have the 003 working with Logic perfectly but I am unable to get it to work (unless I make Logic learn everything manually). My understanding was that it would work fairly well out of the box without tweaks and that I would only have to make Logic learn customer workflows or button/faeder/pot assignments but that all standard control surface functionality would be set and ready to go.

Anyone that has this set-up and knows what to do please help.

-thx-

Hello all-
I am new to Logic, and I am considering buying it. I presently have a Digi 003 rack and Protools. I was wondering the compatibility between the two and did a little digging and this is what I came up with. Not sure if this may help to answer your questions.

If you look down to where the company column says, Apple and then scan to the right it seems to indicate that Intel based Macs will not integrate the two softwares. Only through Core Audio, but I'm not sure what that means.

I would like to know if I can use my Digi 003 as a I/O for Logic. I'm not necessarily concerned yet as to whether or not the two programs are compatible on a software basis.

Thanks in advance and I hope the info I found helps!

I can use the 003 through Core Audio to drive my monitors and as as audio interface using the inputs on the back of the 003 (although I haven't explored the latter much). The LCD screen on the 003 displays "working" and all the functionality is on the 003 mixer board is for the most part disabled. If I press the Midi Mode buttons and go to the standard midi map logic (now upgraded to 8/studio) doesn't recognize the midi messages being sent to logic. Upon button pushes, pot movements, etc. I can see from the 003 that a midi message is being sent out but it is not being picked up by logic. If I change logic to learn mode, logic waits for a midi message to be sent and everything I do on the 003 board is ignored/not recognized. Logic can see the 003 in the setup menu and I can tell logic to look to the 003 for midi input message but yet again, never recognized. Any help or hints are still greatly appreciated.

I guess I could always sell it and go for a dual xeon mac pro and mackie control pro - but that's not the point.
