v-moda headphones

I bought a pair and returned them because the sound was muddled when compared to a pair of Etymotic's I own.

Truly no comparison. Granted they are $300+ so its not really fair to the less expensive phones but I could not listen to them more than a few minutes.

Maybe I'm not too demanding, but I'm satisfied with mine. I don't need the mic switch.

When I first used them, I wasn't happy with the sound shielding or the tone. I swapped to the 'medium' for a better fit and used the equalizer setting to lower the treble. Now I'm quite happy with them.

I sold my Bose QC2's on eBay last week.

I have a pair of V-Moda's (not the Duos with the mike, just the regular headphones), as well as a pair of Etymotic 4's. I definitely agree that the Etymotics are superior in sound quality, but I think the V-Moda's sound very good as well. I have the two for situations where the noise isolation of the Etymotic's isn't a good idea (like while walking on busy streets, etc.). I use the Etymotic's on flights to block out the plane noise.

I'd buy another pair of either one. They both deliver the quality I'd expect for their respective prices.

It sounds like you might have a defective pair. I'd return them for a replacement.

I'm loving my V-Moda Vibe Duos - the iPhone ones. Here's what I figure about the lack of play/pause/call switch: I always take my phone out of my pocket to check who's calling, so that eliminates the call part of the switch. Plus, since they're inner-ear 'phones, you can't really talk to anyone in person with them in your ears, so I just pull them out, that takes care of play/pause switch. In fact, the only thing I miss about Apple's earphone switch is the double-squeeze to fast forward. I think the iPhone could have definitely used play/pause/rewind buttons underneath the hard volume buttons!

Anyway! Here's the secret to the Vibe 'phones:

- If your right earphone is different in any way than the left, contact SUPPORT for a replacement pair. They'll replace them without hassle. My right earphone developed a problem where the driver membrane came loose, so whenever I put it in my ear, the vacuum seal it created would "crinkle" the membrane completely distorting the sound output. Contacted them and a week later, I have a perfect pair of new ones.

- Once you have your perfect pair, go into Settings -> iPod -> Equalizer. Depending on your musical taste, set it to either Treble Enhancer or Bass Reducer.

I have my EQ set to Treble Enhancer, and boy, it makes a world of difference. Originally I didn't even notice that settings, and had it set to use NO EQ at all. After realizing that Treble settings existed, my music sounds pristine. No more bass overpowering all the other frequencies (read: "muddy" sound).

I also love my v-moda duos -- I have never worn a more comfortable pair of headphones, ever -- the mic is also better quality than the Apple one, but it doesn't have the control mechanism. I also never use that and always look at my phone so it makes no difference to me either. I didn't get the v-moda's to talk to anyone, I got them to listen to my iPod and movies.

I find the sound quality to be every bit as good as my older Shure earphones, which got eBayed immediately after I got my v-modas...

But I can't stress enough how comfortable they are -- once you decide which size earbuds you prefer (You should try all three -- the LARGE are the same size as the iPhone earbuds) you will find that they are the most comfortable earbuds you will ever use -- they fit perfectly into the lobe of your ear, and the string cord rather than plastic wire makes them feel just amazing.

I recommend them highly.

Compare them to something that costs 3x $ ?? Uh... do the others sound 3x better? I think not. Of course I also won't spend $5K on an amp.

Apple store always just exchanges right there and then. Open up your new pair before you even leave the store and try them out.
