Motion 2 and 3 together?

Would it be possible to run motion 2 and 3 on the same machine? I'm interested in using the Knoll Light Factory for some effects (the photon torpedo effect) but it won't work with Motion 3 till Q4 which will be way too late.

Any alternatives or suggestions?

Thanks,

Jose

Hi,

Well at first i thought you might be able to simply start a new User account and install one of the versions in there. But then i thought that actually there are components stored and updated in the OS that the software uses. So I would imagine the only way to run two versions successfully would be to run tow different machines.

Someone else might have a better idea though

Actually it is no problem to run Motion 2 and 3 on the same machine. Do this:

- Make a copy of Motion 2 (in the application folder)
- Rename the copy to "Motion 2"
- Store it somewhere on your HD
- Update/upgrade to Motion 3
- Copy "Motion 2" back to the applications folder

That's it.

The only drawback is, that you can't use a Motion 3 project file with Motion 2. But you can open and use a Motion 2 project file with Motion 3. But once you have edited a Motion 2 project file with Motion 3, you won't be able to open that project file anymore with Motion 2.

Hi Jose,

Motion 3 will run third party plugins on a PPC system, or so it says in the manual.

Have you tried PPC emulation under Rosetta? FInd Motion in your Applications folder and do a Get Info on it. Then click the check box for Rosetta.

If it works, it will probably be a lot slower and you still can't mix your projects with the Intel version, but at least you will not need Motion 2.
