small dark cloud on the screen

Just found a small dark cloud on my 17" macbook pro c2d, I bought this machine in December.

Initially I thought it's just dust, after cleaning the screen, it's still there... anyway it's fine, if it's any dark characters or picture background there... but if it's white background, or the light-color'd picture, it's horrible, and the dark cloud just happened close to the center of the screen... any time, I'm typing/view the web pages, it looks ugly...

My questions are :

1. did anyone has the similar problem w/ their mbp 17" display? (I dont have this problem when I buy it)
2. I think I'm still in the applecare period? Does it include the display?

Thanks,
Michael

Does it look anything like this?

I just got a new 17" MacBook Pro a few moths ago, because I ruined the screen of the 15" I had been very happy with.

So I've been taking really good care of this one, and still this is what I see this morning. I have no idea what it is, I keep it in a very expensive computer-bag each night, and it has never been in contact with moisture of any kind.

I'm very close to tears right now and feel like everything is just ... not worth it anymore, I mean if taking care of your beloved Mac is yielding this result, what the **** is anything worth? I can't afford to get this fixed and Apple will just say I spilled something into it, everything *****!

Likely it is a Mura effect in your LCD display.

During the manufacturing process sometimes defects can occur which result in blemishes known as Mura. These blemishes are visual defects that result in bright or dark areas on your screen.

There are a number of factors that cause them including non-uniform distribution of liquid crystal material. They are often hard to detect during final inspection and as a result do make their way into consumer products.

Also, just as there is a "pixel policy" there is an "acceptable level."

I would consult Apple Support and discuss your level of mura with them. If the blemish is unacceptably dark I would inquire about a replacement LCD.

I just sold my 15" PowerBook with the intention of buying a 17" MacBook Pro. But I have to say that I'm not running to the Apple store anytime soon due to the many complaints that I've been reading regarding both the 15" and 17" MacBook Pros.

I've witnessed my Mura effect 31 days after buying the 24" Cinema Display. I'm sorry to say that Apple wouldn't honor the warranty nor the additionally purchased warranty. After many attempts discussing it with Apple and going through their escalation procedure, I gave up. The last technician explained to me that this defect is seen by Apple as "normal and expected quality" for this type of monitor/screen.

This was my first of several heart-breaks by Apple.
