How do I change the Menu Language?

My daughters Ipod Nano was just replaced by Apple after the original battery died. They sent her one that is in JAPANESE! I called in for help and the lady I talked to at Apple thought I could change it to English by "messing around with the menu". Does someone know how to do this? We'll need pretty good step by step help here, because we don't read or speak Japanese. The Main has four options and then a fifth line that doesn't do anything.

On the ipod go to settings> language > then select the language you want to appear on the ipod.

So if its in japanese then it would be on the 4th item down from the main menu. select the 4th item on the main menu. then scroll down to the 14th item on the select menu. then the languages should appear for you to choose from.

Or you can restore the ipod to factory conditions by syncing it to itunes. THen you will choose the language after it has restored itself.

Scroll down to the last menu option but don't select it.
Scroll up one menu item. This should be Settings.
Press the Center (Select) button. This takes you to the Settings menu.
Scroll down to the last menu option but don't select it; in English, this is the "Reset All Settings" option.
Scroll up to the third menu item from the bottom one. This should be Language.
Press the Center button to select Language.
Select your preferred language from the list."
