My iPhone deletes my yahoo email on its own! (Disappearing emails)

I use push email with 3 different yahoo accounts. Since buying the phone, it will occasionally just delete email off the yahoo server without any input from me. The emails are just gone - not in the deleted emails folder, trash or anywhere. I replaced the phone, and the problem continues with 2 separate yahoo mail accounts. Not all emails are deleted, just random ones, such that over the course of a week I've probably lost 5-10 emails. All my settings are set to never delete email.

I have a few examples of deleted emails, as I also occasionally download emails into Mail on my PowerBook (set to leave email on the server, which works normally). I've been doing this for years with a Blackberry and have never lost an email.

Apple says it's yahoo's fault, and I haven't yet heard back from yahoo.

I experienced the same problem today. An email vanished without a trace from my Yahoo! Plus inbox, on my iPhone. I saw it there (marked as unread) then jumped over to my .mac inbox. Moments later I returned to my Yahoo! Plus inbox and watched the email almost instantly disappear on its own before I had a chance to read it. Can't find it anywhere....not in the trash and not on the server.

I am waiting to hear back from Yahoo. Apple did not have any record of anyone else having this problem.

My iPhone is also deleting emails on its own. In my case, the emails seem to be disappearing from folders that I moved them to on my iPhone.

This weekend I know that I moved a number of emails from the InBox to several of my folders on my iPhone, it seemed to move fine. I could see the email in those folders on my iPhone. Here's the odd part: when I opened the folders the next day, and it connected and updated, I saw the emails disappear right in front of my eyes, and the emails were lost.

It was almost like under some circumstances the folder connections are automatically overwriting the iPhone's contents with the contents from Yahoo's server rather than seeing that new contents moved into the folder on the iPhone and synching them back with the server.

I just tried it, and of course, it didn't overwrite my email. On the other hand, immediately after moving the messages on the iPhone, they were not visible in the folder. The messages were only visible upon reconnecting in the folder.

Very strange...

I just had this happen as well. It was a mail I'd already read, and I watched it vanish right before my eyes when I returned to the yahoo mail inbox on the iPhone. No other client could have interacted with my yahoo account between the time the email was received and when it vanished, nor did I even visit the yahoo mail web interface, so it seems that it's surely a bug.

I've had this happen several times now and it is very frustrating. My yahoo email show up fine in my computer Mail but I've have had at least 6 occiasons where my Yahoo mail has disappeared from my iPhone. It's as if everything is erased and it just starts over. There's no rhyme or reason as to how many emails I have to have in my inbox before this happens. Could be less than 10 or more than 30. Doesn't matter. One day the emails are there and then they're just gone. Have heard of others having Iphone erase emails on their computer but that hasn't been a problem for me. Does anyone know if this is a Yahoo problem or an Apple problem?

i've been having the same problem ever since i started using my yahoo! mail account w/ my iphone. it seems that there is a bug in the imap service b/n the server and the phone. something doesn't go right and the message vanishes into thin air.

i contacted yahoo! about it and all they could do was recover the account to the previous backup which would delete any new email that was received after the incident. that was even worse. i thought it was a fluke but emails have been disappearing left and right. even some sent emails were never received.

i've since stopped using yahoo! mail and reverted back to gmail. imap is great but not if it's deleting emails. hope gmail gets their act together and offers free imap or if .mac lowers it's price

I have seen this deletion in the past few days also, and it does not appear to be totally random. All the messages that have disappeared were messages I had moved form one folder to another at least once.

1. A message I moved to trash by mistake, that I then moved back to the inbox, was deleted the next time Yahoo emptied the trash folder (even though the message was in the inbox now).

2. A message put in the "Bulk" folder by mistake - that I moved to the Inbox - was later deleted by Yahoo.

I have used Yahoo mail for 9 years and never had a mystery deletion, so it is not a Yahoo mail-only issue - it looks like it is something about how Yahoo has the mail set to sync with the iphone account.

It certainly seems like moving the messages on the iphone makes it more likly to get this deletion bug.
