"Your base station does not have a valid IP address."

I just bought an Airport Extreme to connect my parents internet from their desktop to my new MacBook Pro. After setting up the Airport I cannot get access to the internet and it tells me that "Your base station does not have a valid IP address."

Please, what the heck did I do wrong?
Or - what the heck can I do to fix this problem?

Yes, thank you!

I'm assuming that their ISP doesn't require PPPoE for connectivity...

Perform a "hard" reset of the AEBSn. (optional)
- (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)

Setup the AEBSn
Either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Mode, check these settings:

It still gives me the message of "Your base station does not have a valid IP address.."

I've tried calling my ISP and they said that I don't need to input (IP Address: <provided by your ISP>
Subnet Mask: <provided by your ISP>
Router Address: <provided by your ISP>
DNS Server(s): <provided by your ISP>
Domain Name: <provided by your ISP> ) <----- that stuff.

So is could it be something internally on the Airport Extreme? Or something that Apple Support can fix?

The <provided by your ISP> means that it should be automatically provided by your ISP thru the modem. You do not need to contact them for this information. Sorry for any confusion.

Are you sure that you have the modem connected directly, via an Ethernet cable, to the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AEBSn?

If you connect your MacBook Pro directly to the modem, what IP address is it getting from the modem?
