CPU ran at 150 degrees and would not cool down....both fans running @6000

I had to reboot the computer in order for it to cool down

The fans were running at fullspeed for about 30 minutes and the cpu kept getting HOTTER. I finally said forget this when it hit 150. I wasnt running any strenuous programs. Just itunes, safari, mail and ichat.

has anyone had this problem?

Macbook Pro, 17in, 2.33, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I assume that's 150 degrees F which is 65.5 degrees C. That is not too hot. My fans don't start to ramp up until it hits 75 degrees C. What was running to put a high load on the processors? A high processing load is going to cause the fans to speed up to get rid of the extra heat.

go into your utilities folder and open activity monitor. check for excessive cpu usage on applications. If there is excessive cpu usage quit the app. and temps should drop.
