Mac Pro Fan making lots of noise since last update

Anybody have this problem. As soon as i start my MAC PRO, fans go full speed, since the last update (27/27/07). I did DL a firmware update that was suppose to correct this situation but it didn't change anything.

Here is a list of the latest updates on my computer:

2007-07-16 09:55:14 -0400: Installed "iTunes" (7.3.1)

My fans have been running full tilt since applying 1.1 firmware update (this is a Quad Xeon running 10.4.10).

I tried cleaning caches and resetting the PRAM - how do tou reset SMC?

Is it possible to revert the firmware?

Under the 4th drive bay is a small round button.
Give that a shot.
Apple has a photo and there are user site's with photos.
Not really hard to find if you look in the upper right corner.

My optical drive wasn't showing up afterward, and had to do SMC reset myself ;-(

Run AHT afterwards if you aren't seeing a more normal operation. Or unplug everything and let sit for 15 minutes (you should do that anyway before opening the case to let FBDIMMs cool down gradually).

The hatter is right: it's an SMC update that came out and that I installed.

So far, I stressed my MacPro with CPU intensive apps like iMovie HD, ffmpeg, handbrake, and Boinc all at the same time for many hours, and the fans didn't even start.

So far, so good...

Just a followup: We are now 60 days later. I installed an EFI update that came out a few weeks ago. The description for this new EFI contained the words "fan control issues" somewhere, if I remember correctly.

I didn't get the fan problem for the last 60 days.
