MacBook Pro won't mount verified DVD-DL

I've tried several times to burn a dual layer DVD with my MacBook Pro. I've succeeded in burning the discs each time. Unfortunately, it won't then mount them.

Using Disk Utility and burning at 2.4x my MacBook Pro will burn a DVD-DL, verify it and eject it successfully. If I reinsert the disc it will spin and make some loud whirring noises and then spit it back out again. I'll stress again that the disc was verified successfully.

I'd assume at this point that the disc wasn't really burnt properly, and that the verification was mistaken. However, I stuck the discs in my trusty old LaCie external Firewire DVD writer, and it reads the discs just fine.

So does anyone have any idea why it will recognise the discs to burn, and be able to burn them, and even read them directly after burning them, but can't read them when they're reinserted?

The media I'm using is Datawrite Titanium DVD-DL and RiDisc Xtreme DVD+DL. They're not exactly top tier discs, but it does have no problem burning to them.

That's a weird one for sure, I'd have said (like you) that it wasn't actually burnt and verified correctly but for the other drive mounting OK :-\

All I can suggest is try Verbatim media and see if it works better ...

I am having the same issue-except it will read some of my DL discs, but not others. I don't understand it at all. It burns them fine, but then won't mount them and like you---it just spits them back out. I have been reading about reseting the SMC and may try that if I do not find any other options.

It's a combination of a terrible drive and a lack of quality control in the media industry.
I use HP dls and so far they have all burned and played back ok.
But I have had some trouble with older DVD R/W, both + and - types. Sometimes they burn sometimes they don't. I have also found that using Toast produces more reliable burns than using the built-in Mac stuff. When my MBP does not recognize a DVD-R/W, Toast sees it and can write to it.
Sometimes when I insert a blank DVD-R/W, nothing happens - the drive spins up, spins down and that's it. Again, if I run Toast, it sees a burnable disk in the drive. Go figure.

Got the same problem here - except that my burned Verbatim +R DL does get mounted if i check "mount after burn" in diskutil.

Turning the comp off or re-inserting the DVD at any other time gives no reaction except for spitting the DVD out again.

I recently burned some ordinary noname +R DVD which could not be mounted. Now, a while later, theys sudenly can.

And For all this. My old old windose XP stationary can read ALL the discs.

Crap I say. Crap!
