How to find the model number?

Hi everyone,

I am close to purchasing a 20" iMac Core2Duo. I am hesitating between BestBuy and Apple Store.

1) The RAM specs from the one at BestBuy specifies a max expandibility or 2GB of RAM.

2) On the online Apple Store it is specified that the max RAM expandability is 3GB. I am confused!?!

Both stores seem to have the same computer available...It would be less troublesome and quicker for me to purchase the one at BestBuy but I am hesitating due to the expandability.

I called Apple and they claim that the model at BestBuy is an older model but how can I be sure about that? All the specs seems to be the same. They are both 20" iMac Core2Duo 2.16GHz.

How can I find out what the model # is on the one on the Apple site to match it to the BestBuy model #?

Help! Anyone!

Hi Steve,

That was so close! I almost got all the info I need from your link.
The model at BestBuy is: MA589LLA
The model on Apple site is: MA589LL

Do you know what tha last "A" stands for in the BestBuy model?
I tried Googling this matter but I can't find any verified results.

Could it be that the Apple representative was right about them selling a newer model?

Your help is much appreciated.

Rio.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking the time to research this matter for me. I did follow your link the BestBuy website. However, you did visit the American site and I was on the Canadian site of BestBuy. I am guessing that the Canadian site may have printed an error in the 20" iMac Core2Duo's specs table about the actual expandability.

Nevertheless, I will give you full credit for your help and I thank you again for the extra effort.

Glad to have helped & thanks for the star.

Sorry I linked to the wrong site. The /A on the end of the serial number may refer to the revision number. Say, the computer without the A is the original, /A is the first revision. The most up-to-date computers may end in /B, see this website to do with a G5 (don't know if it applies to Intel iMacs):
