that's it. I've got exactly the same issue with quick view > thumbnails view. on one folder, I can view it once, but not twice. the second time I try to view multiple pictures, my Macbook pro freezes with NVChannel kernel message.

next week end, I'll try to reinstall 10.5.2 without updating LGU neither 10.5.3

I surrendered about two weeks ago (have been following this topic ever since my first crash and have been hoping for a fix from Apple, but... no), and reinstalled 10.5.2 (had to download it separately), and my computer has now been up and running for almost 10 days! **touching wood**

I can reproduce it with quicklook to. I duplicated a 5,5 MB photoshopimage (psd) 128x and got the graphics exception too.
If someone wants to file a bugreport with steps of how to reproduce it we need a picture with which it will work consistently. Everyone is using different ones at this moment, we don't know how many we need to quicklook to be sure etc..
I'm willing to upload mine if someone is interested (it's just a space desktop image) in verifying if it works for him/her too. (You can easily duplicate it with automater, make an action that duplicates files in a folder and run it a few times. Or just duplicate a couple of times from the finder (Archive -> duplicate)).

    VRAM: 256 MB

    OMG! :P
The "Quick Look and Index Sheet a second time" is also reproducible on my MacBook Pro.

Just so you know I've just sent in a thorough report in Apple's bug report system explaining how to reproduce it and I've also attached log files and a sample of the windowserver process.

Now it's reported "in the right place" at least.
Maybe it already has been by someone else. Let's see...

    It's reproducible with any picture.

I'm not so sure about that, I have about the same picture as jpg (788 KB) and I'm able to quicklook 256 of them without problems. Maybe it 'll eventually crash when I try more, so it might be related to the size of the images you're viewing.
Anyway, nice to see a bugreport has been filed. Please report back if there is any progress. If apple closes it as "non reproducible" I'm willing to file another one .

I made a Bug report about the NVChannel(GL) Graphics channel exception and channel tiemout with frontrow and 10.5.3
The answer was that bug is known (status duplicate) and engineers are working on it, so, "wait and see" (10.5.4 ?)

Hooray! A reproducible bug is a lot easier to get fixed. Hopefully this goes somewhere...

I'm not so sure about that,

It doesn't seem to happen every time, I can admit that.
But it's not like you'll need a specific kind of picture to trigger it.

    That's great news!
Or at least that they're aware of it.
Then I'll probably get the same "known issue" reply in the one I reported.

Noteworthy is that I had problems with an app in 10.5.2 that also got the graphics channel timeout, but that is gone in 10.5.3, so things are going in the right direction at least.

a bunch of jpgs works fine on mine.. but throwing a .psd into it crashes it without fail.
  • star-affinity Level 2 Level 2
I haven't been able to test this, but someone said it will help to put the machine to sleep (close lid) and then wake it again.

I can reproduce it with .jpg's only.
It's not always it happens, though. But mostly.

Didn't work for me - in fact, when th lid was closed, the machine kept running and got extremely (think burning sensation through a padded bag) hot. Only way to cool it off was to pop the battery out.
  • star-affinity Level 2 Level 2
Oh, that's nasty. Then something is definitely hanging so the computer can't be put to sleep properly.

I'm still having the problem, though less frequently, in 10.5.3.
10.5.4 is out today, anyone able to test using that?
