How do I save DHCP settings for re-use?

Hello

I want to do a complete erase and re-install of OSX server 10.4.10 on my intel X-serve but I have a large 'static map' in my DHCP settings which I don't want to re-type!

How do I save the DHCP settings and re-load them once I have re-installed the system?

I am a bit new to all this, so please feel free to use very simple language!

Thanks

Rob.

take a look at this article
http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20070625095016407

you can do just one setting like this in terminal

to save the settings.
sudo serveradmin settings dhcp > DHCP.backup

move the DHCP.backup file to a location you will be able to grab after the new install ie:flashdrive

after the new install

sudo serveradmin settings < DHCP.backup

hope this helps.

Hi again

Well I tried that, but it's not working.

I have the file DHCP.backup file and when I type...

"pico DHCP.backup"

or open it in text edit I can see the static map info. It's all there, but when I type...

"serveradmin settings < DHCP.backup"

it reports

"dhcp:static_maps = emptyarray"

any ideas? is there a way I can just manually copy the DHCP.backup file to replace the current dhcp settings file?

Thanks

Rob.

Ok got it sorted now. I found this static map importer app...

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Network-Admin/Static-Map-Importer.shtml

and was able to use the text from my DHCP.backup file to make the CSV file that it requires. To make it work you must save from exel as 'MS-DOS CSV' (windows CSV won't work) and when you create the new plist file it must have a name with no spaces and the extension .plist to save properly - after that you can rename it 'DHCP Config.plist' and drop it into the Server Admin window.

I Still don't know why the original method did not work.
