Wireless keyboard stopped working, flashing green light (not batt. related)

My wireless keyboard has not given me a single problem until today. When I turned my computer (intel iMac) on this morning I also turned on the keyboard as I usually do. Rather than the steady green light I usually get, I now have a flashing green light that eventually turns off after a minute or so. I've changed the batteries to brand new batteries. I've even tried using new packs of different brands of batteries. Nothing works.

The computer no longer sees the keyboard.

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

I have the same issue with my wireless keyboard and mouse.

I hate it when things go wrong like this and you think it's just you... and then you come on here and see it's just not you (which is slightly reassuring)... but then there is no solution, advice or even acknowledgement from Apple on the subject.

This happens so often. Surely if it's affecting a number of us there should be help from Apple on the way...

Sigh.

Hey! This worked for me! I have not restarted my computer yet so I don't know if I will have to go through this pairing process again, but temporarily at least it seems to be working!

The trick is to make sure you press RETURN after entering the number! The dialogue doesn't actually ask you to do this so it wouldn't have occured to me to do it unless I'd read it here.

Thanks ever so much, timash1000!

I spoke too soon! On restart, my computer started to exhibit some really odd behaviour such as windows that couldn't be moved, what seemed like a phantom control button that was forever depressed giving me a lot of contextual menus whenever I tried to do the simplest of clicking, and then the keyboard failed completely again. I tried to pair it up again using the method that had worked before but it didn't seem to want to work again for me. Sigh. So annoying! The (kind of) good news is that once I turned the keyboard off my computer started to behave normally again.

Hello Everyone,

same problem, but it appears battery related in my case. I changed 3 sets of batteries in the last three days; they only last for one day and then the keyboard dies, but it works all right as long as the batteries have power. It all started since my last software update few days ago....

depressing same old story. Last time I made an update my Airport stopped working properly....Why don't I resist the temptation to accept updates ?.....sigh

I guess we have to wait Apple comes up with the fix....

Just a thought...I had the same problem when my wireless mighty mouse which all of a sudden stopped working. I am running 10.4.10 but others with the same setup have no problems. Bluetooth could see the mouse but I had the flashing green light issue. I thought it had something to do with the bluetooth signal being screwy so I thought something might be interfering with it. I have my Treo on my desk with the bluetooth set to on and visible. I turned the Treo bluetooth off and restarted everything. Now everything works again. Could just be a coincidence. Could be a fix. I don't know. But now I am happy.

Add me to the list, experiencing the same problem as of today.

I am on a Mac Pro, and after installing parallels today (not sure if that is related to the problem), my keyboard stopped working.

I really hope we get a fix for this, I've tried everything including dumping the apple bluetooth plist file and rebooting. Nothing.

Same problem...all of a sudden this past weekend. Both the BT keyboard and mouse have worked flawlessly for 15 months. They get a LOT of use (5 in the family) and a lot of power on/power off cycles trying to extend battery life.

What I've noticed???

Flashing light is actually the "discoverable" piece of the keyboard when powering on. I think there is a timeout on it. I'm typing on it now, and the green light is NOT on.

I can pair after several attempts and toggles of the power switch (maybe 10 or so attempts). I also noticed that my BT wireless mouse becomes strangely slow in response while the wireless keyboard is trying to complete the pairing. This would leave me to believe that it IS a software issue related to BT or OSX.

Also, once I get it paired, so far, as long as I don't turn the keyboard off, the pairing remains and the keyboard works. But when I turn the keyboard off, or if/when I restart the Mini (like after an update), then this process starts all over.

It's not the end of the world, but I am now looking at a new "wired" keyboard (I think) soon.

It would seem this is the "solution" apple has provided. I have to say I'm disappointed in the lack of response from apple on something that appears to have become an issue for so many people. The amount of times this thread has been viewed in a month makes me believe many other people are having the same problems, but not posting about it.

The timing of the whole thing always seemed a bit strange to me. Alot of apple keyboards across the world just suddenly stop working right when apple releases a new keyboard. Odd.

Like you and a few others, I too bought a new keyboard. It is not like we really have any other options at this point.
