I got an answer from the Apple experts. Guess what... _They refer to this forum._

It's very frustrating to hear from Apple that they don't know a solution. My camera is still listed on the supported devices list but has the same irritating problem as all the other users on this forum are faced with:

*No sound after importing in a lot of files when the camera reaches over the 100 clips.*

(that is the main complaint)

I think I know what the problem is: JVC puts the clips per 100 in a folder on it's HD. In a case of more than 100 clips the camera creates an other folder for the next 100 clips... There something happens with the structure of the files. May be I'm wrong.. I don't know.

I use a JVC GZ-MC500. It uses a 4gb microdrive (compact flash). My first try with imoveo8 was with the summer vacation shots, 220 files. Imovie08 recognizes the camera and produces grey previews and no sound is imported. The JVC stores each 99 files in a diferent folder, I deleted folders 2 and 3 and leave de folder one, with 40 files, then the import was perfect. Second thing I did, was leaving folder one complete with all the 99 files, and folder 2 with 40 files. Imovie08 didn´t recognize the camera.

I hope apple support take note of this and fix the number of files bigger than 99 issue in order to use our mpg files in our JVC cameras, now imovie08 is useless for me, I back to windows edition.

Best regards.

I just uploaded footage from JVC Everio into iMovie 08, which is great. I could not do it in iMovie 06. However, some footage has uploaded with no sound, while older footage (still on the hard-drive) has uploaded with perfect sound. I guess I will have to fiddle around with the settings, but I can't understand how the same import options give me sound for some files and not others. Has anyone else had this problem?

Emilygrae,

My EVERIO_HDD is mounted as read-only in the finder. How do you copy the mod files back to it's hard drive?

I like to do the same as converting an existing mpeg movie (which I made before I had the iMac) gives me lots of quality loss (converting to DV or MPEG with MPEG streamclip).

Files that are imported directly from the camera are perfect in iMovie08 though...

thx

I have recently purchased the JVC Everio GZ-MG130 camcorder. It's not listed on the Apple Supported Devices page. It connects to my iMac via USB. When I try to connect the device to my Mac it goes into freefall displaying the message "connecting to device" indefinitely. I have not been able to import files from the camcorder using iMovie. JVC manual suggests buying independent software for Mac compatibility despite claiming to be OS X compatible. Surely this isn't necessary. Can anybody advise me.

I have the GZ MG 130 and took it down to the Apple store and hooked it up with USB2 to one of their iMac G5s. No luck first try but hooking it up first then turning it on switching it to playback and selecting the connect to PC choice. The camera shows up on the computer as a hardrive. Then start the iMovie 8 and it recognizes the camera and the icons show up for upload.
I did discover that it would not import sound if you tried more than 40 clips. So I imported and then delete those and then did the next 40. Slow but it did work.

i have a samsung dv camera and it wasn't recognized by my new imac. it worked fine on my other macs and i took the camera to store last night and it won't work with the imacs in store either so it is not my computer. after talking to 3 people who work there one guy took it to the creative team and they informed me that i have to some cameras via a firewire external hard drive. we tried it and the camera was picked up. The cameras that they suggest i guess are guaranteed to be recognized by all macs, if you get one in the group like mine you might have to invest in a firewire external drive.
