Volume Locked

I had the same issue and noticed a red light coming from my headphone socket. It seems the computer still thinks there is a set of headphones attached. When I plug in the headphones the volume works fine.

If this is the same for you, try inserting and removing the headphones a couple of times until the red light goes out - this worked for me.

You might want to check and see what the output of your Sound preferences is set to.. make sure it didn't get moved to "digital".


Otherwise, do you have any other USB of Firewire audio devices connected to your computer?

I'm having the same problem, the volume is all the way up, but won't produce any noise at all (apart from the startup DONG). There's a little circle-with-a-strike-through-it symbol at the bottom of the volume window, but nothing in the system preferences seems to help me out! Any help would be wicked, thanks

Thanks! I was having the same problem, but I tried just inserting the headphones around 10 times and the light turned off. Definitely solved the problem so thanks.
