Booting with new aluminium keyboard

Hi,
I got the new aluminium keyboard yesterday - seems to be fine but:

While booting there were no keys recognized at all. Neither CMD-V for verbous booting messages nor ALT for selecting either MacOS or BootCamp/Windoze...

Is there still a firmware update pending?

I'm using a Intel MacMini with MacOS 10.4.10, the latest keyboard update and all other published patches and updates...

Any hints?

MacMini, CoreDuo 1.8 GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.10), aluminium keyboard (with cable)

I'm also having the same problem but with an original Macbook Pro Core Duo. Can't get the boot selection screen to come up while holding the option key. I don't think it's isolated to just the mini's. Might be a Core Duo Boot ROM/chip incompatibility with the new keyboard design. I've tested it with my old pro keyboard and it works fine. New keyboard, no dice.

BTW I called Apple about this about 5 minutes ago and they said they had no previous record of this issue. Kind of strange based on some of the comments here.

Oh well, hope they sort this out with a firmware update.

aren't there any apple administratot/staff to take into account this problem,

Apple don't monitor these discussions, so they won't see these issues raised here or respond to them here. Calling them by phone, visiting an Apple store or posting feedback at www.apple.com/feedback is how you get their attention.

may be don't they even know it exists?

If it isn't reported to them directly, they may indeed not know.

As I've written in an earlier posting in this thread I have reported this bug both on AppleCare and ADC (Apple Developer Connection).

Nonetheless I'm a bit disappointed that obviously this issue is still not retrievable in the Apple KnowledgeBase (or something like that) since 'oilslickshoes' reported that AppleCare had no clue about this problem as he called them... strange.

It doesn't surprise me that when calling AppleCare they might indicate they are not familiar with the issue - they may be handling calls on hundreds of products and if the one they're dealing with doesn't have a significant number of complaints of the same sort, it's likely they'd have no knowledge.

This is certainly not the first time a new product has led to calls in to Apple that have resulted in 'I've never heard of that before', even when there are a number of reports posted on the subject.

The reason I commented regarding reporting it is because everyone who has the problem needs to do so, otherwise it delays possible analysis of the problem and the development of a KB article and/or fix.

OK, certainly that's right! I tried to encourage other customers with that problem to place a call at AppleCare myself...

also does not recognize the Alu-Keyboard during Boot.

Same here. I have a PowerMac G5. It often doesn't see the new keyboard either. Pulling out / re-inserting the USB cable two or three times (after powering up & whilst at the login window) usually results in the Mac recognising the keyboard & mouse though. Maybe worth a go with your Mac Mini's?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but what's strange is that when I press the power-key & the G5 fires up, the mouse's laser-light (which is connected to the keyboard as usual) DOES light up. It's only when the Mac begins loading OSX that the mouse-light goes out completely, then after a few seconds it comes back on again - IF, that is, the keyboard & mouse are going to be recognised.... Otherwise, both are dead until unplugging/plugging the USB a couple of times. They are definitely getting power though, because the mouse-light briefly flickers when re-connecting the USB, even if the G5 doesn't see them...

In case it makse a difference, my keyboard & mouse are connected to the G5 via a powered USB hub (haven't had chance to test NOT using the hub), but the old keyboard was wired up the same way & I never had any problems at all.
