Booting with new aluminium keyboard

Hi,
I got the new aluminium keyboard yesterday - seems to be fine but:

While booting there were no keys recognized at all. Neither CMD-V for verbous booting messages nor ALT for selecting either MacOS or BootCamp/Windoze...

Is there still a firmware update pending?

I'm using a Intel MacMini with MacOS 10.4.10, the latest keyboard update and all other published patches and updates...

Any hints?

MacMini, CoreDuo 1.8 GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.10), aluminium keyboard (with cable)

Apple, where the h * are you on this? What ever happened to "It just works"?

The option key does not work for selective boot with the new aluminum keyboard. If this issue is going to continue to persist, they need to start putting a sticker on the box that warns you. I know I wouldn't have bought if I knew.

I tried both Tiger and Leopard. Have the latest keyboard software and Intel Mini firmware. Got no response from Apple. Lucky that I was within the time limit to return the keyboard and go back to using the older Apple pro keyboard which is recognized. Also found that bootup keys for booting from the CD or going into the test program on the CD doesn't work either.

Similar problems here, not so much centered around the aluminum keyboard as just trying to get our Mac Mini to recognized ANY Mac keyboard, once the Boot Camp installation (1.4, under Leopard) reaches the point where the mini restarts under the control of the Windows XP SP2 install CD.

Most of the Apple keyboards we tried (six and counting) failed to work at all - one slightly older Apple keyboard from our G5 (the white & clear "crumb catcher" model) was recognized, at least the RETURN key functioned as the ENTER key to get to the following screen. But no luck with any of them, and Apple's keyboard software update from Sep 07 says "newer software already installed" when it's launched in Leopard.

Solution I stumbled across was to create a disk image of the Windows install CD and run that. Everything worked fine.

Hello, I have the same problem about the booting option on my Mac Mini Intele Solo with OS 10.4.11. I tried many things (booting from install DVD, etc.), and another wired al-keyboards, but could not solve the problem. The original Apple keyboard is worked well.
I posted this problem on the Japanese Apple Discussions Board couple of week ago.. After I posted, 3 Mac Mini users replied. They have the same problem.
I hope this problem to solve by the update of Apple as early as possible.
Sorry for my bad English...
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the hint on the Apple Remote workaround.
I'm absolutelly stunned Apple did not acknowledge this problem officially yet. And... how hard can it be to make a KB that works and is normally compatible with your products. I really like Apple products but this is ridiculous.

I have 3 of these ALU style keyboards and results vary 😟
On MacBook Pro Core2Duo - New KB works for the startup commands.
On Imac CoreDuo - New KB fails for the startup commands.
On Intel MacMini - New KB fails for the startup commands.

I believe on the new ALU iMac's the keys work.

Come on apple.. support your users please.

Ar.

No-one here can answer that question because Apple don't disclose such plans, and those who might know are typically tied by non-disclosure agreements.

All one can reasonably conclude is that with the issue being widely reported, thus almost certainly ensuring Apple are aware of it, and with so much time having passed, it seems decreasingly likely that Apple intend to fix the problem by offering a firmware update.
