iPhone sounds: no sound

whenever i get a text now, it does not make a noise. none of the sounds besides the ringtone work. i have tried reseting it and when i press on and off on the settings it does not make a sound either. do i need to get a new phone? or is there some way to fix it?
HELP!

You have done all the basic fixes, Only thing left is to do a full restore from itunes then next, I would suggest calling 1-800-myiphone and ask for a more technical answer. what you have done so far is the best solutions posted on this board to date that I have seen, time to consult the genius bar IMHO

I am having the same issue as the rest of you are with my new 3G running 5A347. Sooo annoying. It randomly works and doesn't work. At first I thought it was a feature, that if it was within x minutes or seconds from last text it didn't do it, or if you were still in the SMS application.. but it's not, it's just random. Rebooting the phone doesn't help me either.All sounds still work minus the text alert. I'm hoping this is fixed in 2.01, along with the Safari bugs.

Same problem here. Resetting didn't work. Cleaning phone jack didn't work. Plugging phones in several times didn't work. Restore didn't work. Have appointment today to get a new phone.
