Failed import of video file from digital camera

Open up Image Capture in your Applications folder. In the preferences choose to have Image Capture open when a camera is connected.
Now connect your camera and see if Image Capture can see the video and download it for you. If Image Capture can't download the video, there might be a problem with the video file.

Same problem here. I can import movies from my Canon Ixus 75 into iPhoto '06 (on a MacBook Pro) with no problems, but iPhoto '08 (on a G4 MMD) says it doesn't recognise the AVI format. Surely not?
They downloaded onto the G4 with Image Capture, but it seems like the long way 'round...

It might seem like the long way around, but this is exactly they way I download my photos and AVI files from my digital camera.
Doing it this way I can then put my photos in dated folders and my movies in dated folders. I then import the dated photo folders into iPhoto.
Having the dated photo folders and movie folders makes it easy to back up my photos and movie files.

Lori, I appreciate your reply, but I just want to import my AVIs into iPhoto like I used to before.
To have to do this kind of clunky work around is a retrograde step from iPhoto 6 and seems contrary to the whole idea of iLife.

No problem, I understand.
I started using Image Capture because my new digital camera (at the time) took very large video files. iPhoto was choking on the large files and they never downloaded into iPhoto. I started to use Image Capture instead.

Good point; the Ixus 75 movies are comparatively big. Maybe this is the problem. But still....
