I have had my LCD replaced twice because of blotchiness, or what looks like bruises. I've just noticed that they have come back again. I bought my MBP september of 06. The guys at the apple store I go to said it looks like there is dust under the LCD. They have happily fixed it twice now, but the blotches keep coming back, and it is making me wonder if it is more than just the LCD- that is, a general design flaw that is putting the screen in contact with the keyboard or something else that is causing the problem. I use a screen protector when i close my computer, and always travel with it in a protective case.

Has anyone had their laptops replaced by apple? This has been a reoccuring problem now, happening every 4-5 months since I purchased the laptop. I have the extended warranty, so I am hoping that they continue to fix my screen, however i am getting the feeling that fixing the screen isn't actually fixing the whole problem.

My MBP is 11 month of age, the matte LCD screen has been fine, but one the hinges was faulty. Still under warranty I got the whole (sic !) lid including the screen replaced by my favorite local Apple service provider. The whole lid was ordered directly from Apple and looked brand new.

The hinges are fine now, but the replacement screen shows a *dark coarse particle behind the screen* near the bottom, there are two *darker fingerprint like areas* on the right center and a *white spot* on the left center of the screen (like the infamous ones on the Mac Books two or three years ago).

Worst of all: it is my impression, that apart from these "stains" this display is of *inferior quality* regarding the *reduced view angle* !
As the MBP usually sits in front of me on my desktop, this is not due to a different environment. I am professionally working with images, so I can tell.

I will schlep it back to Apple to get my old screen back or have a flawless one. I hope this doesn't become a routine job !
*Apple should take more care in quality control !!*

I've just noticed the same thing on my screen. Back when I had a Compaq 3600 iPaq I had a similar screen issue. Turned out that the little dust bits were actually glass shavings that were still clinging to the cut edges of the screen material. After a while of bumping and jiggling - say 11 months (got my PBP last christmas)they work loose and get inbetween the materials and become visible.

On the iPaq it was due to assembly not being done in a sterile 'no air' environment.

I can't say for sure if this is 100% the same thing, but it sure as heck looks like it.

Hi,

I am not sure if mine is the same issue, but last night I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger. My screen before this to my knowledge was 100% fine.

Using the computer today, on bootup I notice a light circular "blotch" in the bottom left about half way from the macbook pro logo to the edge of the screen. It would seem to be behind the panel, and in the top right corner I have a very small dark mark, which again seems to be behind the panel.

While it does not affect my viewing of things when using the OS and applications, the fact they are there really annoys me, and I can't help but notice them.

I haven't spoken to apple yet, but is this something stemming from the Leopard upgrade, or just a coincidence...?

15" Glossy BTW.

I'm so happy to read this forum. I thought I did something wrong while cleaning my screen (I used a cleaning kit from the shop, but you never know). First one 'blotch' and now I have three big greyish blotches on my screen. Especially irritating while watching movies (I don't have a tv). After having had them since a couple of months I'm more or less used to them by now, but it's never nice to have a perfectly fine MBPro ruined by a faulty display.

So, does anyone have an idea about what those of us can do who have computers older than 12 months? Should we all at least be writing letters to Apple? Or to some kind of consumer protection organization?

It's not clear that we all have exactly the same problem, but lots of us do seem to be describing the same fingerprint-like marks that appear to be "in" the screen.

I have this exact same problem. One dark blotchy looking spot that is growing and becoming more and more annoying. I use my MacBook Pro for graphics work and I can't concentrate on my designs with this growing dark cloud just left and below center of my screen. I'll be taking this in to the local Apple Store in the next couple of weeks to see what they'll do. I am still under warranty until May '08 and have Apple Care too.

I finally have got one of them dots today.

I didn't do anything to it, just like all of you guys. I am going to talk to my local Apple Premium Reseller today and see what they said.

My computer is one and a half years old and the problem just showed. However, I think I have the screen replaced once due to very poor backlight distribution. That might have caused the problem. I'll post once again as soon as I have any progress.

My MBP 17" is about 14 months old. Same problem with the display now. Looks like dirt/fingerprint but it's located inside the screen. Anybody got the display changed because of this problem?
I bought the 3 year AppleCare P&L Warranty. If the problem is increasing, i will try to get the display changed.
