dead like black pixel splotches..

I'm having the same problem - and I thought it was a cleaning thing even though I have always used a cloth between the screen and keys.

It started to happen when the machine was about 13 months old (and thus out of warranty).

Has this been added to the known issues with apple, or are they still pretending its not happening?

I have had this problem occur also and now for the second time. Does anyone have a solution other than getting the display replaced by apple?

I noticed it mostly happens with the intel core 2 duo 17inch models. I have read most of the other post here with the same problem.

Same troubles on/under my laptop screen (mbpro 17, 2,16 gHz) and many other in France too !
The more we are, faster Apple will take care of us...I hope !
Call them and call them again is the way...

Same problem here, does anyone know how much it would cost to get it replaced? I've looked around and it's not too promising. Are we making any progress on the screen recall? Haha, keep me updated fellas.

My MBP17 c2d 2.33ghz has the same problem. The splotches gather around the center of the screen. They are exactly in a square around the apple logo on the backside... Just not on the bottom side. Somewhere I read it could be related to the glue/stickytape which holds the diffusion-gel for the apple logo... I think my case backs this theory... Of course my MBP is out of warrenty, so last chance is Apple to recognise this problem...So Apple, please.
And: 2 of my friends having MBPs also have this problem...

I think the marks on my screen is glowing from little dirty spot to across the middle of the screen. I really don't want to replace my screen.

Yep I got it too. MacBook Pro 15 inch. I have black/grey smudges/blotches under the screen (won't go away with cleaning no matter what I have applied). The smudges are growing.

I bought my MBP off a guy selling it on eBay. When the computer arrived, it had one small dot that I took for a dead pixel right in the same place you describe (just left and below center). In the past day, three more splotches have appeared and they are growing. I do a lot with graphics and this is unacceptable. Where does this end? Is the whole screen going to turn splotchy?

Yep same here. 15 in MacBook Pro JUST out of warrantee. You know if this is a widespread thing Apple should be repairing it. Even if you don't get extended coverage this is a big defect in a laptop MANY people use for graphics and design. It's just not feasible to have a machine this expensive with this short of a screen life.
