Numbers doesn't support Data validation from Excel or NeoOffice sheets????

Numbers doesn't support Data validation from imported spreadsheets??? Has anyone found an alternate way of making a pull down data list? I am trying to upgrade from NeoOffice (which is FREE) and is actually better in some cases than Numbers. When I open the spreadsheet with the list on it the warnings box says "data validation" isn't supported. I am looking to have a pull down list to select from in a cell. I've looked thru Numbers manual and program but am not finding something to use as alternate. Someone pleassssseee help!!!! thanks big time if you can
