EXPORT STOPS HALF WAY??

I just bought this 24inch imac a couple days ago. I took all of my photos and dragged and dropped them into the iphoto program. I can see and edit all my photos and in my pictures folder I see just the iphoto library folder which I guess is normal. Anyway when I try to export ti a folder on my desktop so I can back up my photos the export gets about halfway and quits//? Says unable to export bla bla and just sits there?
Any ideas...

I'm having similar problem. Export stops midstream with a uninformative (and I believe, incorrect) message "Cannot create fine /myimages/iphotoBackup"

So far I have determined that it is related to a corrup iphoto library. Apparently the thumbnail points to a missing or invalid photo (apparently converted automatically by firewire during the installation of my new iMac). If you can find the file (no easy task) and delete it, the export will continue until the next missing/invalid file -- a very tedious process. I've been trying to export 20,000 plus files and it has taken several days. The message should say " missing or invalid file name "xxx", cancel or continue".

I have also run into several other bugs seemingly caused by iPhoto08 including OS X freezing. I certainly hope Apple will fix soon...

Make a note of the problematic photo next time you get the message.

Two common causes for this issue are 1. File Permissions and 2. The App is unable to find the file which it's trying to copy for export.

To tackle 1 Download BatchMod from

http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/

And apply it to the iPhoto Library using the settings found here:

(Credit to Old Toad for this one).

If that doesn't help, then if you can try rebuilding the library: Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

IF you can get the name of the offending file and find it in the iPhoto Window see double click in it and see if iPhoto can find it.

Thanks, Terence. Rebuilding the library solved several problems, including the export failure.

I had used Mac disk utilities to repair permissions earlier, but it found not errors and made no difference.

Because I was still having some problems (missing events in the event view), I tried rebuilding all thumbnails (est. time 2 hours). About 2 hours in, it failed with no error message (just "report to Apple" pop up). [I reported the failure to Apple.] I rebuild the known missing event by flagging the photos in the photos view and "creating an event from flagged photos".

Subsequently, I noticed that the metadata (image dimens, size, rating, tags, etc.), that had been shown at the bottom of the left column, is now missing. I haven't been able to find an option to view them or not so I'm guessing they were lost in one of the library rebuilds...?

So am I doing something stupid?

RL

Not sure I understand you, but have you clicked on the little 'i' button at the bottom of the window?
