Can't Install .pkg - Using Pacifist - What Utility to look for to install?

Hello, I can't seem to load .pkg items. I was wondering what Utility is used to install .pkg's..What should I be looking for on Pacifist?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

A Symbol opens in the Dockbar and stays for bearly a Half Second and then closes..

I'm not sure about Pacifist, but for me (in Tiger) double-clicking on a .pkg installs it. I did this last night with a bunch of patches I had saved from Software Update. I believe you can also do this in a Terminal window:

<pre>install -pkg SomePackage.pkg -target "/"</pre>

As usual, run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility as the first step.

Is it something that was previously installed? If so, it may help to remove the "receipt" for that installation in

<startup disk>/Library/Receipts
