I've had my new imac for 4 days and every day it keeps freezing this is normally on a screen saver or front row, I have tried force quit but nothing seems to help and in the end have to restart my imac, I have also done clean install but it is still keeps freezing up.

I was just wondering if anyone has gotten a refurbished Alum imac and seen the same freeze ups and artifacts? You would think the refurbs might have this issue resolved but you never know. Any info on this would be appreciated!
My thirty day return policy with Amazon.com expires tomorrow, so I gave up on Apple and requested a replacement iMac. Here's hoping the next one doesn't have the freezing problem. But I must say how disappointed I am in Apple on this issue. Just abysmal. The head of whatever design department OKed this design, and the head of customer service should lose their jobs.
I just bought a 23" iMac yesterday from the Apple store. Was annoyed that Tiger was installed. Had to use the drop-in DVD. All seemed OK until my wife called my this morning and said the screen wouldn't come on. The mouse LED is lit and last.fm is playing, but the display is "frozen". She says it's either black or deep blue. The wife was already a bit irritated that I'd spent the cash, and now it's not working correctly.
Does this sound like the freezing issue we're talking about? Wife says I should take it back and hook up the PC again.
Picked up my iMac last night from repair and had the Ram and MLB replaced. I did the software updates (iMac software update 1.3)and it froze very quickly after restart. Did the whole PRAM process, unplug the computer and wait 30 seconds, disk permisions, etc. In short in froze twice yesterday and twice today. Took the iMac back to the store and now they are going to look at the ATI Radeon HD 2600 card.
I now see that Apple posted today a firmware update for the ATI video card--saw this after I dropped the computer off this morning. Anyone have any luck with this update to stop the freezing? I called into the store requesting that they hook the computer up, apply the update and let it run for a few hours to see if this fixes the issue or if a new graphics card is really needed. All of this freezing began with the imac software updates in Tiger and Leopard.
So now, a key question. Do those of us who have held off on installing either the Tiger 1.21 or Leopard 1.3 patch now need to do so to install this graphics card firmware update? In other words, does this firmware update provide any additional graphics card functionality, beyond stability? Or, does it "merely" fix the freezing issue of those who had freezing issues (either with/without the 1.21/1.3 patches)?
Or, put another way, does Apple recommend everyone with a new Aluminum iMac with the ATI 2600 card now apply the Tiger 1.21/Leopard 1.3 patches and then run the graphics card firmware update?
It appears that Apple is NOT recommending those with stable systems to proceed down this path.
I can still freeze the machine with need for speed carbon, same ASIC hang log nonsense, and I can do it consistantly. Looks like this one is going in for repairs...
Good news is that I can't freeze it any other way.
The latest software update Apple Imac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 has deemed my new Mid 2007 2.8 Ghz 24" iMac does not need updating. Normally I would not worry too much about this, as I have in fairness only suffered a few freezes which required a restart by switching the iMac off. However uncertainty is not good when you're entrusting a lot of important data to your computer.
I have definitely had the occasional freeze as described by others; admittedly this was mainly using 10.4.10. I also had the screen corruption in the area of cover flow within iTunes.
It seems more stable since upgrading to Leopard.
What concerns me is not knowing exactly what the latest firmware is correcting and why this isn't necessary for all new Mid 2007 iMacs?
I'm sure it would be comforting for all new iMac owners to know they can be certain how and why their new iMac is definitely not affected?
Does anyone know why only some particular new iMacs are deemed in need of this firmware update?
Please, please Apple issue a statement to clear up all the confusion about this issue, this will stop your loyal supporters from worrying unnecessarily?
