How i remove the stand from an Intel iMac 17" ???

Please help...is it possible to remove the stand from an intel based imac 17" . If yes how i do it?

Only the 24" iMac models have user removable stands. To remove the stands from the 17" & 20" models requires opening and some disassembly of the computer. This is complicated and difficult, and would most likely void any warranty you have left on the machine if it was not done by a Certified Apple Technician.
But it has been done by some users in the past;
Why no VESA mount!? grrrr....

I have a similar question as I want to find a way to mount a new 20" iMac. My understanding is that Apple does not make a VESA adapter for this model. Is this issue more that the stand cannot come off easily (by the consumer) than the adapter not working? Put another way, if I for example asked the Apple techs to remove the stand, could they then install the VESA adapter currently sold for the 24" iMac?

The 24" is the only one that has an option for a VESA mounting. Here are a couple of links to check out.

If you read through the link in my post above, it can be done on 17" & 20" of the two previous Intel models; Core Duo & Core 2 Duo. Once the iMac was apart the adapter for the iMac G5s fit perfectly. Tostada has done about 20 Intels in the lab where he worked.

Actually, I was just reading that post when you made your reply. It seems interesting, although I don't know if I have the guts to try it myself. I also wonder if there are any differences between the new iMacs and the predecessor model. I may ask the Apple Store techs and see if they would be willing to do it for a small fee.

Techs in an Apple Store may play dumb or tell you it isn't possible. Show them the linked discussions thread.
You may have more luck with a Certified Tech in a 3rd party Apple Authorized Service Center.
