Dsr-11 problems

Hey guys I was curious how exactley one could record a vhs tape from a vcr and capture the footage to final cut pro 5 using a sony dsr-11 capture deck. I'm trying to do it but it's not working. Anything I need to know to succesfully do this. Can it be done? Thanks!

2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 5GB 667 MHz, Mac OS X (10.4.10), Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Pro, Reason, and Pages!!!!!!

ON the front of the deck... slide the left slider down to VIDEO (or SVideo if you have it).

This will record from the inputs on the back.

Use FCP to capture the playthru and use uncontrollable device in your capture setup.

(however if you want timecode (see other post) you'll need (and should) copy (dub) to miniDV or DVCAM tape.)

You have two options and both require that you have the manual for the DSR11. If you don't have it, download a new copy form Sony's website. it's free.

Hook your VHS up to the composite video and audio inputs of the dsr, select composite as the input. Put a tape in the dsr and start recording, start your vhs playing. When your tapes are done, you will have dub of your vhs material that you can capture using standard FW presets.

Or you can hook it up the same way and use the dsr as the pass-through FW input. You have no control over the vhs, you just play.

Hey Captain, I did as you said and it worked except for when it gets to the end of the vhs I have no way of stopping the capture. I have tried to do it several times and I end up having to force quit final cut pro. Is there something I need to do. I even go to my capture scratch files and none of them recorded any footage. thanks!
