Windows Vista wont install Ipod drivers

OK I NEED HELP....
I have Windows Vista and I am trying to install my iPod Nano, but everytime I plug my iPod in it ask me to insert the CD that came with it. As I don't have a CD I just click to install drivers automatically. Than it gives me an error saying 'unable to install drivers'. The divers do show up in the device manger under- other devices but there is a little warning sign next to it. So I right click on it and update driver, which it then tells me that it can't update driver. I have the latest version on iTunes and Quicktime, and I have also done a restore on my pc. Spoken to Apple 4 times!!! got no where with them. My iPod works fine on Windows XP machine, but not my Windows Vista. Has anyone else had any troubles with Vista??

I am having the same problem here, I have a new laptop running Vista and new ipod 30g video, the ipod is fully charged through the USB. However there is not the slightest indication anywhere that an ipod is connected to my laptop.
I have tried all the fixes in this thread.
No sign of any mass storage device in the device manager, nothing in my computer, I tunes diagnostic "no ipod found"
I am not asked to load any drivers, I have run both Ipod shuffle and ipod photo on this laptop until both were stolen last week. Any other mass storage device works.
Why are apple not addressing this issue there seems to be plenty of users with problems, often with the 30gb video.
come on guys lets get this sorted.

As Anthony Donnelly mentioned earlier you can do the step 1, pointing windows to the correct path to find the usbstor files (inf & pnf), which it didn't worked for me on my WinXP laptop with several variants and many hours wasted or doing the step 2, which is easier and faster, in my case after wasting many hours trying to make it work with the first solution.

For option 2 go to the device manager, find the ipod device with the yellow warning mark, then right click on it and update the driver, on the next screen choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install", on the next screen should appear two options: SELECT "USB Mass Storage Device", the other refers to the iPod but DON'T USE IT!!! I think some may get confused and willing to choose it because it mention apple and iPod, but it doesn't work. After choosing "USB Mass Storage Device" just click next and windows will finally recognize your iPod Nano and automaticaly iTunes will start to transfer your music.

Thanks for your advice Anthony Donnelly. EVERYBODY HAVE A HAPPY NEW 2008 YEAR.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On the microsoft link posted by laffytaf, at the final comment on page 8, user Omar Khouri says with a lot of security that the problem is the file infcache.1, so he says that erasing it will solve the problem, but it didn't work for me. So it may be just another possible cause of the problem and a solution to try.

Hey, i really need help! my god, ive been trying to have itunes find my ipod touch for months already Everything seems to be working according to the itunes diagnostics. I really have tried everything possible that the apple website offers, but yet my ipod still cannot be read. The only place my itouch can be found is in the device manager as "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".
Im not that great at computers, but how exactly do I point out to Vista where my ipod is?
